Hispanic Heritage Month: Hombre Edition💁🏽‍♂️📚

🇪🇸Carlos Ruiz Zafón ~ he is a Spanish author of the series "el cementerio de libros olvidados" , this is my favourite series of all time! I can not recommend these books highly enough! Unfortunately he did pass a few years ago but his legacy lives on through his books and his words... my favorite book quote ever is "Los libros son espejos, sólo se ve en ellos lo que uno ya lleva dentro" and this was written by him.
🌬️The Shadow of the wind ~ 5/5

🇨🇴Gabriel Garcia Màrquez ~ he is a Colombian author most known for his magical realism in his works... such as one hundred years of solitude and love in the time of cholera. I've only read this book that I currently own, but I plan to read more in the future! Unfortunately this author also passed but he is proceeded by his literary legacy which has had such an impact on the world.

Here’s my Girl Name Book Challenge!!

After being tagged by @bookishmey_ I thought I wouldn’t have as many books with a girl name on their title as these. What is more, I’ve discovered almost all of them are classics. The majority of them are from my Cranford Classics collection. If you would like to see the rest of the collection, tell me in the comments. I’m happy to show you!!

This was such a fun challenge to be honest. I discovered some new favourites, some old books to add to my never ending TBR and some old loved ones as well.

I’ve tagged some of you to try and find some girl name titles, but feel free!! Anyone who wants to jump into the trend is more than welcome.

[Spanish]

Women going through it...
Classics edition📚🥀

🥀anna karenina - my favorite book ever, and probably the most talked about book on my account... anna is dealing with infidelity, not knowing what she wants in her marriage or life. And yes this has a tragic ending

🥀 madame bovary - i have not read this one yet... but it is described as a french anna karenina. Emma marries a doctor and moves away but she is unhappy and begins to question things in her life...

🥀 jane eyre - this is a book i first read at such a young age, but i will be doing a re-read with my bestie @pages.in.mind this winter. Jane takes a job working for Mr.Rochester, who isn't the kindest man... and things seem odd in this house but she can't understand why or what is giving her this feeling.

🥀 rebecca - a more gothic tale, this book is about a young girl who falls inlove with a gorgeous and young rich man, shortly they are married but he hides secrets and so does his staff and estate.

I was tagged by @frolicandfiction to do the house and home challenge! I wasn’t sure what I’d end up with, but I had about as many applicable titles as I anticipated:

A Spy in the House of Love by Anaïs Nin
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
The Candy House by Jennifer Egan
The Birth House by Ami McKay

The first two I loved, and the second two are still on my tbr. All are secondhand, whether from a used bookstore or from a family member.

Feel free to join in or ignore the tag!

Anna Karenina Review ~ PART 1
(My favourite book of 2025 and all time🫶🏼) ~ ~CONTAINS SPOILERS ~

This is more than a review, it's somewhat of a book analysis. Anna Karenina is my favorite book and I have so much to say, I could speak about this book until my lungs have no more air. The words are powerful, the characters aren't just characters they feel like home to me... people say why is the book called Anna Karenina, when it's clearly about more than just her... there is no real answer unless you go back in time to ask Tolstoy himself. My opinion on the topic is... this is a time in imperial russia where women were seen as one thing... wives of their husbands. Anna wants to be seen, to be loved, to be cared for and she never truly gets what she deserves (in my opinion) in the book and she has a very tragic ending so... I think Tolstoy wanted to give her something. He wanted to give Anna's name meaning and love by naming this story after her.

In the book we have many characters, Levin who is probably the best man ever written in literature, nobody is perfect but he's very close. Mr. Darcy with his hand movement in Pride & Prejudice... how about Levin literally memorising what Kitty was wearing and looked like when he saw her going away because she was "love ill" (when he was working in the field.)

Alexei Alexandrovich Karenin, many people hate him and he's not the best character but he's also not the worst... during this time in history men would do ALOT worse to their wives if they found out about an infidelity in the marriage. He wanted to forgive Anna and continue to be with her. I do think in the end he played part in her suicide by taking her son away... , but honestly both Alexeis played a role in this...
~ Continued in part 2 ~

Book Review📚

Perfume: The story of a murderer by: Patrick Süskind🥀

🥀Rating: 4.5/5⭐️

🥀Review:
This book is like nothing I have ever read! Perfume is originally written in german, I read it in spanish before and this time in english, and honestly I'm not a translator of literature but I believe it was translated very well in both editions I read. It is dark, disturbing, odd and interesting in a creepy way! At times it can be so disturbing you want to put the book down but it's also so captivating, I was unable to put it down.

In this book our main character Jean Baptiste Grenouille is born with an unbelievably strong sense of smell. During his childhood, he can distinguish smells that others cannot all around France, specifically Paris (that's the setting of this novel) ...

As our character grows in age, He becomes an apprentice to a perfumer due to his fascination with smells but although he is intrigued by the work, he cannot deal with all people. We watch our main character decent into madness as he begins to find the smell of women irresistible but he cannot solely enjoy their company... The scents drive him mad, even enough to commit murder... thus the book being called story of a murderer.
