The @palcscpfa honors music ensembles traveled this weekend to Myrtle Beach, SC to participate in the Festivals of Music - Myrtle Beach competition. 5 other high schools from Virginia, West Virginia, and Missouri competed in concert band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, women's chorus, men's chorus, and mixed chorus categories judged by university level professionals.

The competitive results were impressive:

CPFA Treble Chorale - 1st place women's choir, Superior Rating, 98.0/100 average score, Outstanding Choral Ensemble Award (highest scoring choral group in any category)

CPFA Mixed Chorale - 2nd place mixed choir, Superior Rating, 91.0 average score

CPFA Jazz Mavericks - 1st place jazz ensemble, Superior Rating, 94.33 average score, Outstanding Jazz Ensemble Award, Outstanding Jazz Rhythm Section Award

CPFA Jazz Travelers - 2nd place jazz ensemble, Excellent Rating, 87.0 average score

Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award - Julian Hontz, piano (only one of these is awarded)

Outtsanding Vocalist Award - Tommy Moliterno (only one of these is awarded)

More importantly, all four ensembles made incredibly detailed and artistic music together and built commoroderie that will continue to enhance the culture at CPFA and at PALCS. The students even threw one of the Chorale members a surprise 16th birthday party in her hotel room on Saturday night after the awards ceremony.

Thank you to the Academic Leadership Team for approving this extended stay trip and supporting our efforts to fundraise and keep costs down for participating families. Thank you to Dr. Dziekonski and CPFA nurse Jenni Amanullah for support and coordination behind the scenes. Thank you to CPFA music teachers Lisa Bennett and Raquel Rosenwald for serving as chaperones. Special thank you to CPFA vocal music teacher Nick Harmantzis for coordinating the trip details with EPN Travel and for continuing to inspire choral, vocal, and interpersonal excellence in our vocal music students.
