STANDARD BANK JOY OF JAZZ, 27TH EDITION
📍 Sandton Convention Centre | FESTIVALFINALE!

KING THA’S HOMAGE TO LEGENDARY HUGH MASIKELA

It’s so rare to find an artist who can deliver a tribute that is deeply personal, yet fully embodies the legend being honoured. One who connects so deeply to the melody that the whole room feels it in their chest.

That’s exactly what @thandiswamazwai (daughter of the soil) did.

The emotion she pulled from the Mbira Stage had everyone probably whispering that @hughmasekela himself would have given her a slow, solid, triple nod.

Thandiswa is one of those rare, almost elusive artists who brings her own completely distinct sound, yet magically bends into any genre she touches. If I’m not mistaken, this was her third consecutive Joy of Jazz appearance, but this time? This time she came to do sacred work — a mesmerizing homage to Ntate Hugh Masekela.

I don’t even need to unpack it too much... that finale — fashion always on 10/10 as usual — left the jazzophiles begging for more.

What I loved most about her renditions of Bra Hugh’s catalogue? Nothing felt foreign. Nobody was guessing what song it was. Every note landed. Deep. Soul-deep.

Could it be that special bond she shared with the legendary Hugh that let her capture every heart in that room? Because let’s be honest, the song you choose doesn’t always choose you back. In Thandiswa’s case? Oh, it chose her, honey.

So kudos to @joyofjazz for choosing King Tha (as widely known) to honour a legend. And Thandiswa, my darling — you are a bona fide ARTIST. Currently we are bombarded with endless music noise, you made this year’s JoJ festival finale a true one-of-one!

*STANDARD BANK JOY OF JAZZ, 27TH EDITION*
_Sandton Convention Centre | Day 1: Pick of the Day_

*ANGÉLIQUE KIDJO — AN ELECTRIC MASTERCLASS 🔥*

An absolute full house. A storm of sound and light!

Five-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo delivered the defining performance of the @standardbankjoj opening night. So powerful it drew former President Thabo Mbeki into the audience.

I arrived curious to see how the crowd would receive Ms. Kidjo’s pan-African brilliance. That curiosity vanished the moment the first familiar anthem dropped. And guess what? The euphoria took over!

The Mbira Stage rose as one. Imagine a giant, joyful choir throwing every lyric back to Ms. Kidjo with pure devotion.

A historic night. A true icon at her peak.

Unforgettable. Pure fire. ✨

I am grateful for every addition, every blessing, and every expression of God’s love in my life. What the Lord has done, no man could have done.

This season reminds me that God is faithful to His promises, intentional about His children, and generous in His grace. Every open door, every relationship, every opportunity, and every victory is a testament to His goodness.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” – Psalm 103:2

My heart is full. My cup runs over. To God be all the glory for His unending love, favour, and faithfulness. 🙏🏽✨
