We have to decolonise the narrative that so many intellectuals might be perpetuating from the comfort of their homes, choosing politeness and perceived balance, telling oppressed people how they should be speaking about their oppression and what kind of resistance is allowed.

Listen to the excerpt of a powerful speech by Palestinian American journalist and author @ramzybaroud. He reminds us who the organic intellectuals are whose voices we should amplify.

Follow @palestinechron for news and in-depth analyses.

In the nineteenth century, Zionism set in motion a project born of necessity and pursued through power: the annexation of Palestine. Countless false narratives have caused confusion across the world.

No one can arrive and say: my ancestors lived here two thousand years ago — I have returned, now you must leave.

Palestine was never “a land without a people for a people without a land.”
It was always a colonial project. From the outset, even British authorities were reluctant to allow Zionist land purchases, fearing—as came to pass—the destruction of Palestinian agriculture, crafts, and cultural life.

And now we see the technologically advanced fury of annihilation with which this genocide is being carried out. It is Zionism that must be opposed, because it implicates us all, infringes upon democratic freedoms, and sets the world ablaze. Those who respond only with accusations of antisemitism or appeals to raison d’état have understood neither history nor compassion. Nor do they possess foresight.

The destruction of international law and human rights concerns the entire world.

As a German, I have spent my life carrying grief and horror over the persecution and industrial mass murder of Jewish people, and of others whom fascism marked for destruction. That will never change.

But “Never again” must not apply only now, nor only in some places.
Above all, “Never again” must also apply to the political ideology of Zionism and to the systems of domination carried out in its name.

K!ll!ng Gaza’s SpongeBob

Children in Gaza love SpongeBob. Seeing him on this boy’s notebook made me think about the worlds we escaped into as children growing up there. Muhammad was fourteen. He was coming home from school. Israel killed him, and his friends were left showing people what was inside his bag.#spongebob #children #education

🇵🇸 For more than a year, UKHPRC has been asking the royal colleges questions they cannot afford to leave unanswered.

We, along with the broader healthcare movement, have repeatedly warned healthcare royal colleges about the genocide in Palestine, concerns over the British government’s role, and the risks of institutional complicity through silence, omission and unethical activity.

Over the past 12 months, we have been examining institutional discourse: what is said, what is left unsaid, whose suffering is acknowledged and whose interests are protected.

Is humanitarian concern genuinely guiding institutional decisions? Or has the language of medical ethics become a respectable cover for relationships that lend credibility, visibility and legitimacy to actors implicated in grave international crimes?

In her UN report, From economy of occupation to economy of genocide, Francesca Albanese examined the corporate and institutional machinery sustaining violations against Palestinians.

From carefully choreographed expressions of concern to convenient silences, from corporate sponsorship to procurement decisions and cosy conversations behind government doors, whose interests do the royal colleges’ words, silences and relationships ultimately serve?

Colonial history was not written by villains alone. For decades, crimes against humanity and apartheid have been enabled by respectable institutions, polished reputations and those fluent in the language of ethics who somehow always knew when to look the other way.

The presidential chain of office may glitter with virtue, and the college crest may polish its conscience. But the time is approaching when those who hide behind these symbols will be named, their decisions exposed and their ethical failures brought into the full glare of public scrutiny.

A simple message carrying a powerful sentiment.

A Palestinian boy has expressed gratitude to Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama following his address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Holding a handwritten note, the boy wrote: “Thank you President Mahama. We will never forget your steadfast support for Palestine.”

The message comes as Ghana continues to publicly affirm its support for a two-state solution and the rights of the Palestinian people.

A small note, but a significant gesture of appreciation. 🇬🇭🇵🇸
