003 | THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

Took a little afternoon road trip up to West Palm Beach for some mat time with longtime friends at @roguewavewpb

Today's focus: side control escapes. And honestly? Probably one of my favorite classes so far.

I've known @forcefitnesspt for YEARS and the dude is a fucking BEAST. The way he breaks things down, demonstrates different options and focuses on those tiny details that can change the ENTIRE outcome is exactly why I love jiu-jitsu.

There are so many options, reactions and decisions. You can't just muscle your way through everything. You have to pay attention and actually THINK.

And I think that's what makes this comeback so special.

When I was younger, I just showed up and did what my coaches told me. Now, after years of studying body mechanics, fascia, breathwork and nervous system regulation through @thedamagecontrolmethod I'm approaching the mat with an entirely different perspective.

I'm not just learning movements.
I'm understanding them.

What's wild is how much my body still remembers. The bigger movements and muscle memory are THERE. It's those tiny, intricate details that need some dusting off.

My endurance tho? 🤣
Maybe by class 100 I'll have my lungs back. LMAO.

Also, can we talk about how fucking awesome AFTERNOON CLASSES are?! As a kid, I trained whenever classes were available. Now I get to incorporate jiu-jitsu INTO my life instead of structuring my entire life around it. And that freedom is fucking dope.

Already having a partnership with Rogue Wave through Damage Control made getting on their mats a no-brainer. And knowing how nasty Ryan's jiu-jitsu is, I'd be an idiot not to learn from him.

Is West Palm a hike from Fort Laudy? ABSOLUTELY. 🤣 Worth it? 100 FUCKING PERCENT.

Huge thank you to Ryan and the Rogue Wave crew! If you've never trained there, do yourself a favor and GO.
