The grand opening of @martinhousech children’s hospice was one of those moments that stays with you. After years of campaigning, conversations, plans, hopes and tireless fundraising from the team and many more, I had the privilege of seeing The Build fully realised and officially opened by Ambassador Sir Gareth Southgate . This breathtaking £21.9 million redevelopment represents far more than bricks and mortar; it is an investment in the future of children and families across Yorkshire who need Martin House most. As an ambassador myself, I have followed this journey for many years and have witnessed first-hand the passion, commitment and generosity that has brought us to this point. To walk through the new spaces was very emotional.
From the hydrotherapy pool and sensory rooms to the thoughtfully designed family spaces, every detail has been created with one purpose: to bring comfort, dignity, joy and support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and to the families who walk alongside them.
This is so much more than a building. It is a promise. A promise that families across Yorkshire will continue to receive the care, compassion and specialist support they need, both now and for generations to come. Especially proud to meet Sir Gareth Southgate as he officially opened the doors to a project that has united an entire county behind its vision. The day belonged to everyone who donated, fundraised, volunteered, shared the story, championed the cause or simply believed in what Martin House could become. Every contribution, large or small, has helped create something truly VITAL in our region.
Well done @clairholdsworth and your fantastic team, and to all who have helped shape and create this incredible new facility.
To finally see it standing, filled with light, peace, hope and possibility, was a very special moment indeed.

Giving back never felt so good. This was last Friday’s fundraiser for @martinhousech Martin house children’s hospice, hosted and supported by @audleyvillages Audley, Scarcroft Park. This vital charity works tirelessly to support those who require its services and their families, and it has done so for over four decades.

East meets west was in the pipeline for some time, planned over several months in fact and it came together beautifully. With many contributions that completely blew us away, showing us that giving back never felt so good. When you start the process of raising money for a vital cause such as Martin house, you’ll find an echo chamber of ‘just giving’. From the generosity of our food sponsors @este.medical.group which ensured 100% of all ticket sales went directly to the charity, to all the auction prizes that were generously donated from many sources across the city. VIP theatre experiences, overnight stays in luxury hotels, wellness vouchers and much more, were only some of the auction prizes, brilliantly auctioned by Paul Hirst.

The mesmerising entertainment given to us by an old friend and colleague, @balbirsinghdanceco with classical kathak dancers @kalichandrasegaram and Sancheeta moving to the the dulcet tones of tabla by Dave; it had the audience captivated. Who would have ever thought that the addition of beatbox would be so good?

The menu was carefully planned out between chef Kevin and myself . The brief - a fusion of East meets West Yorkshire! punctuating classic south Asian dishes with definitively Yorkshire inspired elements.
A hugely successful night overall that raised a whopping £4500+ in only a few hours. It just goes to show how people come together to support, but more importantly, give back.

Thank you to all the guests - many of whom are friends as well as owners here. All came to support and to enjoy this memorable night at Audley Scarcroft Park.

Exciting News Alert 🚨

I can’t quite believe I am writing this but last Saturday I found out I have been shortlisted for the @alantitchmarshmbe New Talent Award at this year’s Gardening Media Guild Awards, to be staged at The Savoy no less. 🌼🌸🪴

Writing & storytelling has always been my bread & butter. However during lockdown, with three small children & a husband working as a doctor writing and talking about gardening, growing and encouraging children to grow and cook with what they can grow became my focus and kept me alive. Hence my podcast was born with a little persuasion from my wonderful friend Lucy. Plus there are few Scottish female voices talking about gardening, food and farming.

However, gardening has a much more deeper meaning. Depression and anxiety has loomed larger in my life and between 2020 & 2022 I fell into some very dark spaces. Gardening quite honestly saved me and I want to inspire so many more to garden to help both their own health and the health of the planet. 🌎

A huge thank you to all my guests, listeners & a special thank you to @ocean.plastic.pots & @kilduff_farm for giving me the opportunity to find my creative self again. Roll on the awards!! What to wear?!?!

❤ I had such a great time at the @hospicesofhope ladies lunch today. 🏢 It took place at the stunning @bonhamhotel and I was surrounded by such caring people that I felt overwhelmed with joy. A huge smile on my face seeing fellow @themumpreneurrevolution members as well. 💆‍♀️💋 Thank you @mua_jackiecormack for a wonderful make up demonstration and to Alanna @intercitymassage for relaxing the guests. And lastly, big thanks to the amazing @pam_newby for all the love and effort she puts in helping young people in Romania.
