Beyond flattered when contacted by a student on a curating course at a top London University to discuss my Cabgallery project (co-curated with Paul Stolper) from more than 25 years ago. She quoted me from interviews from the past and fortunately the website was completely re-designed by @pamespositodesign and re-built by @suzannetokeeffe to keep it all fresh in my mind. It was so satisfying that something that started as so immediate and instinctive has somehow settled into something that can hold its own in an academic conversation all these years later.

In the past couple of months I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to Los Angeles, New York, Belfast, Dublin, and Galway on the west coast of Ireland and, as always, my beloved Cabgallery.com stickers have come along for the ride.
It’s incredible to think that it’s been over 25 years since the Cab Gallery project began with Paul Stolper in London and now it’s found a new life through the website bringing together the full archive of past material, artist contributions, a film retrospective, and a wealth of previously unseen photos and footage.
(No architectural features were compromised in the installation of this sticker)

A quick two-night stay in New York and no time wasted.
We rushed to “Oh, Mary!” at the Lyceum Theatre, and it was every bit as good as we’d heard.
Next day into Printed Matter, a place I’ve been visiting since the early ‘90s. It was great to see my Cabgallery.com leaflets and stickers there (designed by @pamespositodesign ). I picked up a Peter Liversidge book “Proposals for Printed Matter, Inc”, one of my favourite artists, and a prolific Cab Gallery presence. (And yes, a few more stickers went up around town.)
Then on to the Outsider Art Fair which is still underestimated, endlessly versatile and full of surprises.

That night, a rare treat: the Grand Ole Opry at Carnegie Hall and a Hatch Show Print poster which, in its own way, brought it back home.

In LA for Porsche stuff, had the opportunity to visit Magnus Walker’s famed Willow Street warehouse Open House and see where so much creativity materialized. The remarkable thing about Magnus is despite everyone always wanting a minute with him, he remains the most gracious and generous host. Always willing to stop for a word, an autograph or a photo. We were happy to leave him with a copy of Off The Map as well.

A mentor in London once told me that a collection should be rooted in its local community. He was right. My collection has accompanied me throughout my adult life, across changing careers, changing countries, shifting moods, and the wider currents of the world around me. It reflects where I have been and where I find myself now, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
What follows is a group of artists connected to Nashville: those who live here today and those who once did. I am fortunate to have one or, in some cases, many of their works. There are of course so many more which came my way through the Mail Art projects that have now been donated to the Special Collections at Vanderbilt University Library.
