🔪📚 5 RECENT READS FOR MY FELLOW UNHINGED READERS 📚🔪

You know I can't stay away from books that make me question humanity, side-eye everyone around me, and occasionally wonder what the actual f*ck I just read. 😂💀

If you like your reading dark, disturbing, twisted, and just a little bit concerning… I've got a few for you. 🖤

📚 Seed — Ania Ahlborn
📚 Summer of Monsters — David Sodergren
📚 Tender Is the Flesh — Agustina Bazterrica
📚 Psycho— Robert Bloch
📚 Things We Do in the Dark — Jennifer Hillier

Basically, my reading taste is questionable, my TBR is out of control, and I'm not even remotely interested in fixing either problem. 😂

👇 YOUR TURN, BOOK BESTIES!

What's the most messed-up book you've read recently that you'd recommend to someone who likes their books DARK?

Give me the unhinged recommendations. You know I can't resist. 🔪🖤

Good for her. They deserved it 🤷‍♀️

I love a good revenge curse and this one was bloody and brilliant!

A 300 year old witch’s curse
Possession
Rising from the grave
Folklore
The town knows
Rituals and sacrifices
Scotland

Ahhhh!!! Loved everything about this story. Now I need to read Sodergren’s entire backlist. It was gory, suspenseful, creepy, and oh so fun!!! I also highly suggest the audiobook; the narrator did a phenomenal job.

Also, quick shoutout to @baker_reads and @georgesreads for always suggesting Sodergren’s books and for kickstarting my current obsession 🙌🫶📚

OMG 😱

David Sodergren, wtf goes on in your twisted mind?!? A book has never made me squirm like this did... 🤢

This was the most depraved, disgusting, despicable thing I've ever read... and I low-key loved it. 🫢

4.5/5!

The Forgotten Island 🏝️ by @paperbacksandpugs
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

When time came to choose a book to take on my Anniversary trip camping in Appalachia, I asked @asummerford21 if we could read this one and I do not regret it!!! This was the perfect read for these woods (despite not being the tropical kind of place) I had a wonderful time with this story, I always love how Sodergren writes, the pacing was great, the anticipation of what would happen next and I LOVED the ending, it gave a not to one of my favorite films for me, ✨ without giving any spoilers for this story it’s hard to give the full in depth review I’d love to give but we sure do discuss ALL our notes when we have book club! Definitely check out The Forgotten Island if you’re not too scared!!!
(Some trigger warnings/probably still would classify this as a very mature read)

🎃 Rezension 🎃

David Sodergren – The Haar: Der Nebel von Witchaven
@festaverlag , August 2026

Death Spell ☠️🧪 @paperbacksandpugs

It’s not spooky season without a Sodergren read is it! Honestly I have not read a book by him that has let me down yet & this..oh this was the perfect addition to my October tbr! I devoured it within 24hrs 😮‍💨👏🏼🤎

Ron Jarvis wanted his promotion SO bad, bad enough to make a pact with a Shaman, make him successful & he can have his first born daughter on her wedding day! The deal is done…

25years later Ron is the second richest man in America, he has everything he could ever want including his one & only daughter Vivienne

Now Vivienne is what we call a spoilt brat! She’s not used to the word no & when she’s rejected by movie star Nick she’s livid!! She needs her daddy to do something! Make him fall in love with her & only her!!

Back to the Shaman they go, but this time Ron doesn’t like what he hears & has to use severe manipulation at gun point to get what he wants…and after it’s done well karma is a B & destruction follows them all in the form of absolute brutal CARNAGE 🫣🤯

I think this is the movie brutal Sodergren (not talking Carl John Lee) read I’ve read so far! I said EEESH so many times like there were parts in here that I did not expect from him!! But my god did I love it!! 👏🏼

It was perfect with the black magic, the gore, the karma that was so deserved after what Ron did & the occasional chuckle (meatloaf & pugs in strollers) I really did love every bit of it!

Add it to that spooky TBR but do check your triggers 🤎
