Jennifer Collier ZOOM workshop.
Stitched paper gloves.
8th October 10.00am - 3.00pm.
Stitched Paper Gloves: I demonstrate how to patchwork papers to create the ‘fabric’ for the gloves, show ideas to decorate such as paper Suffolk Puffs, mini paper roses and decorative hand stitches like Cross Stitch, Blanket Stitch and a beautiful Venetian Needlelace stitched edge. I also show you how to put these together and construct the gloves, as well as covered bindings, button loops and covered buttons to add fastening.
Participants can choose to hand or machine stitch the papers in this
workshop, and I will give you hints and tips for both. *Each participant will need to print a copy of the template I email in advance of the workshop.

In this online talk Jennifer will talk you through her route to practice, from graduating with a degree in Textiles in 1999, her transition from textiles to paper, through to her current obsession with translating lost heritage stitches for use on paper…
Paper pioneer Jennifer Collier creates exquisite sculptures from vintage recycled materials in conjunction with stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. The papers serve as both the inspiration and the media for the work, with the narrative suggesting the forms. Through this marriage of unlikely materials old papers are transformed into something truly unique, delicate and complex.

We started 2026 with @paperjennifer laminating and stitching paper to create clothes. The technique has lots of applications to move forward through our Arrivals and Departures theme.

Happy Sunday Summer Solstice ☀️ I hope you’ve had a lovely week 🥰

It’s been ever such a busy one here, with school visits, cleaning and prepping after one workshop for the next and a lovely mid-week event where I visited the school I worked at to see the year 11’s for their last day 🥹

Yesterday, we also had the FABULOUS @paperjennifer in the studio, and I was well chuffed as Jennifer is one of the artists this year, that has been to Hope & Elvis with each owner and now me! 🥳 it was such a brilliant day and as a paper fiend myself, I think I was star struck! 🤩

Thank you @paperjennifer and all who came for such a marvellous day, and if you’re interested or you’d like to know more about Jennifer’s work, you can visit her at her studio @unittwelve! Next Sunday would be the best day as @ruthsingertextiles is having a vintage textiles sale (I’ll be elbowing people out the way! 😂) and it’s also the last day to see @emilynotman (who is visiting Hope & Elvis in November, still a few tickets left!) exhibition, Distilling the Rainbow 🌈

Children's Welsh Literature Recrafted

To coincide with Paul Eastwood’s exhibition Unreadings, we commissioned Jennifer Collier to create a series of jugs, spoons and teacups made from the iconic Welsh language children’s books created by Mary Vaughan Jones and illustrated by Rowena Wyn Jones. These books were part of a graded reading series by Cymdeithas Lyfrau Ceredigion aimed at helping children to learn Welsh.

All intellectual property rights in the Licensed IP remain the sole property of Atebol Cyf.

I have been tweaking this dress for some time. It is one of my favourite dresses I have ever made for myself. The embroidered fabric was from Bahrain. A couple of pieces given to me by my sister Julie. I was just able to pattern match the back seam, pleased about that. To prevent the embroidery being distorted I cut the main dress in one. I had attended a fantastic insertion stitch masterclass with @paperjennifer so decided to include one of the stitches on my sleeves along with some tucks. I also attended her fab smocking masterclass and then found an old smocking sample from my A level Embroidery. Course. Such teeny tiny stitches. So I included some smocking on the front of the dress. I really enjoyed revisiting these techniques. I originally used just blue stitch but revisited it and added some yellow. I may add yellow to the sleeves. I was really pleased with the pattern placements on the collar. I tweaked the collar a few times as it covered the smocking too much. I finished it off with a covered button. I shall really enjoy wearing this dress. If you want to see it in the flesh pop into Unit Twelve tomorrow. I shall be teaching a dressmaker class Link in bio for my dressmaking and embroidery courses@if you would like to make one yourself.
