Dear friends, family, and strangers,

Thank you for taking the time.

We are writing to you with heavy hearts and deep care for haej and their dad who are navigating deeply challenging coming months of cancer treatment, recovery, and caregiving. Now, as the sole caregiver of their dad, haej is getting ready to face the next few months with adaptability, courage to ask for support, and recommitment to their love and care for their dad. They are preparing to move out of their current apartment unit to stay with their dad once they both return from Corea, and take over parts of his work. With all these abrupt changes affecting their wellbeing being disabled and formerly unhoused on top of being on medical leave, leaving them with no stable income, haej has been struggling to take care of themself. Any amount to this mutual aid effort will directly allow them to take care of themself so they can care for their dad fully.

Haej’s dad is a lover of nature and authentic connections. He loves fishing, camping, and exploring places that remind him of his hometown of Samcheok. He is known by those who know him as a generous neighbor and friend who goes out of his way to make sure people are taken care of. Let’s come together to make sure both haej and his dad are able to continue pursuing life’s simple pleasures and have a fortified chance at beating the battle against cancer. Thank you so, so much. We deeply appreciate your compassion and generosity.

With love,
stevie, diana, connie, joonseo, shromona

Hey y’all.

On August 16th, at 5:54pm a man came into my mom’s store in Chinatown and stole her purse containing several weeks of earnings in cash. This was not only humiliating for her but it has placed my mom at a severely precarious position as she may not be able to stay afloat.

It’s frustrating that I’m in New York, but I’m trying not to get lost in my head. So I’m doing everything I can from speaking with insurance agents, reaching out to key contacts, and calling several numbers from LAPD all of which continue to lead to voicemail.

I’ve committed to repeatedly posting and reaching out to authorities and media outlets to affect some change. So I will consistently update about the store and my mom’s well being.

My sister who still lives with my mom, is openly receiving donations via Venmo. (https://venmo.com/u/tiffnyluu)

And to all those who have contributed, my mom says thank you. She was genuinely touched and suprised I have so many generous and loving friends.

I will reach out to those individuals personally with the same gratitude as soon as I get a grip on myself.

I refuse to let my family be a victim of this and it’s unfortunate that I only have a few weeks left in NYC before I go back to finish college. I’m fucking lucky to have friends from both the east and west coast showing me overwhelming love and support. If you guys are interested in helping me spread updates, please dm me.
