“I need me.”

After nearly nine years at the helm, Nikki Metcalfe is stepping away — and Paralloy RT will close at the end of 2026.

For years, the North East women’s team, formerly Team Boompods, has helped riders progress through Britain’s domestic scene. But behind the results was a very different reality: a team largely held together by one woman, volunteers, personal contacts and an increasingly stretched budget.

Metcalfe talks candidly about running a national-level team on around £14,000, the disappearance of the Tour Series, losing riders to UCI teams, the personal cost of keeping everything going — and why she knew it was finally time to stop.

“I loved it. I just need to get out before I start not enjoying it so much.”

Can’t say it’s been the smoothest of rides this year. A few good results that were overshadowed by a season ending crash.

I’ve been suffering with concussion for the past few weeks but with advice from friends and @hobbsrehabilitation, I’m hopefully turning a corner 🤞🏻

A huge thank you to everyone who’s helped and checked in on me during this time 🫶🏻

After surviving several seasons without any crashes, I’ve had two of my biggest this year. A season to learn and move on from!

Nice to be racing again, even though i could deffo notice the lack of race fitness 👀
Next time might try sprinting looking forwards 🤷‍♀️

No more races planned for this season but never say never, had a great year with @paralloyrt onto a new chapter !

Yesterday, I was given the all clear to ride outside again & I couldn’t be more excited!

However as to no surprise Otley was my last of the road season. it was a short but sweet season: full of laughs, lessons and memories which will last forever💛

August is all about enjoying the bike, training hard, making memories and remembering a happy cyclist is a fast cyclist☺️

I’d like to personally thank @562nikki + @paralloyrt for the opportunities the last 2 years!

CX is just round the corner & cant wait!!! @fossa_racing 👀
