As Parenting for Liberation @parentingforliberation celebrates 10 years, Founder Trina Greene reflects on the organization’s mission to help Black parents heal from intergenerational trauma, resist systemic oppression and cultivate joy. While there is much to celebrate, including P4L’s evolution from a virtual platform into programs serving parents, caregivers and youth, the road ahead is long. And P4L’s work has become increasingly personal for Greene as her own son, now 17, approaches adulthood. ⁣
⁣
We asked Greene what her greatest hope is for Black children and parents:⁣
⁣
"I hope Black children have the full childhoods they deserve. They deserve peers who see them and don’t co-opt or demean their culture. They deserve love and to be treated as whole. They’re brilliant. ⁣
⁣
I hope that Black parents receive the support, love, nurturing and caring that they give to everyone. I hope they have the village they need and join our movement to liberate ourselves and our babies."⁣

a year ago, I made a short film in Paris called “ORI,” with a small a two person crew, it’s a project I’ll forever be proud of 🫶🏽

my time abroad was amazing, but behind closed doors I was battling with one of the most difficult & confusing periods of my physical & mental health, that led me onto a journey of searching for new ways to integrate wellness into my life ☁️

yesterday, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of @parentingforliberation & I feel so honored to announce that ORI will be screening as apart of their exhibition, “Homeplace” from now until November 27th at off-TOP Design in LA. 🥳 There are so many dope artists featured in the show and I feel so grateful to be in the same space as them!!

when I look back at ORI, I think about the highs and the lows of that time. I remember how much power there is in calling onto our higher selves in times of need. In a world where it can feel so easy to absorb it all, I am reminded that I have something both magical & eternal, that will always be there to ground me: my divinity within, aka my ori. 🌌

I’m so honored and excited that my painting “Mutha” was selected to be a part of Parenting for Liberation’s HOMEPLACE: Home as a Site of Love & Resistance for Black Families exhibition. 🥹❤️🎨

This is really special to me because I’ve always considered myself an in-home artist. My children and I have always drawn, colored, painted and created together at home. “Mutha” was actually finished during one of our paint nights, so to see something that came from our home now framed and hanging in an exhibition about Black family, love, healing and resistance is such a full-circle moment for me. ❤️

Congratulations to Trina Greene and Parenting for Liberation on 10 years! 🎉 What an accomplishment and inspiration to have spent a decade uplifting and supporting Black mothers, fathers, children and families on this journey 🙌🏾

Had an amazing time capturing the P4L Raise Your Voice Youth Summer Podcast Camp! From behind the mic to behind the scenes, it was inspiring to watch these young creatives build confidence, share their ideas, and learn how to tell their stories through podcasting. 🎧✨

If you are serious about parenting, you need to be serious about your education. Not just the home study paperwork or the agency checklist. The kind of education that prepares you to parent a child whose story started before you showed up.

Repair is an essential life skill for resilience in our interdependent context.

One of the most beautiful things I've fortified while fighting to give my daughter more of what she needs from me -- is our culture of repair. I wish we just didn't need it, and it is a gift. She is only 17 months old, and we already have a robust rythmn of repair and return.

We know how to make up for lost time, we know how to stay close in distance, we know how to remember and return quickly, we know how to honor and soothe, we know how to be creative, resourceful, and flexible while staying in integrity, etc...

We have our current conditions, we have our needs, and we have our agency. We are making alchemy within and between us, as I work to improve the conditions.

We have already built a relational foundation stronger than our challenges. This is life-long, transgenerational medicine.
