The Earth is Burning is now available at Vsesvit shop!

Земля Палає/The Earth is Burning is a collective publication on ecocide in Ukraine caused by the russian war. Edited and curated by Art & Ecology researcher Liza Goncharenko, it brings together artists, researchers, and writers exploring the destruction of ecosystems, memory, culture, and daily life under wartime conditions.

Through essays, visual projects, field observations, and artistic research, the contributors Karolina Uskakovych, Yuliia Kishchuk, Marynka Dovhanych, Paris Bezanis, Seila Fernández Arconada and Liliya Chavaga reveal how invasion transforms rivers, forests, agricultural land, wetlands, cemeteries, and sites of collective memory.

All sales will go towards supporting grassroots organisations based in Ukraine.

This publication was made possible through the generous support of the @track_report of @royalacademyantwerp @research_royalacademyantwerp

This year´s @darbazi_dialogues field school is taking place July 1-7. In each iteration, the Darbazi Dialogues field school is organised around two impulses—one archival and one speculative; one discursive and one material.

Through interviews, field recordings, sketching, photography, and laser scanning, we work through a recording processes to document and archive the unique cultural landscape in which darbazi are embedded. This year we will move toward an exhaustive documentation of darbazi in our host village of Khizabavra, in conversation with the caretakers who continue to use these spaces for various everyday purposes.

Materially, this year we turn our attention to working with stone—specifically through the construction of a traditional Meskhetian baking oven—a phurne. Materially, this is a landscape defined through its mineral qualities—with stone being the most abundant building material. And the phurne directs us to so many layers of both everyday as well as historical practices--from the omnipresence of a fire in each darbazi to the gathering of family communities around meals; from the multi-chambered ovens to the unique varieties of wheat found only in this region. In this, the phurne gathers meaning through its typical and repeated presence in so many households.
This year the @lina.community fellows @namigradoli @galenasardamova and @paris_bezanis will join the amaying @darbazi_dialogues team @v.o.g.l.e.r @tata_koiava @ramaziko @giorgi.marg

heatwave/bahrain pavilion.
isola fraraguna.
2025.

.
architecture for extreme heat.
heatwave is the national pavilion of the kingdom of bahrain for the 2025 venice architecture biennale presenting an architectural response to rising temperatures and the vulnerability of those who work outdoors. conceived as a full scale prototype the pavilion introduces a modular system for creating passive microclimates blending traditional bahraini cooling knowledge with contemporary environmental and material research. it received the golden lion for best national participation.

.
inhabiting climate.
the pavilion is built as an inhabitable environment defined by a raised platform a suspended ceiling and a central climatic column. the structure demonstrates how shading airflow and calibrated materiality can generate comfortable thermal conditions in challenging climates. in venice where geothermal excavation was not possible the system uses mechanical ventilation drawing air through a canal facing opening and distributing it across the interior to produce a moderated microclimate.

.
thermal commons.
heatwave frames public space as a shared climatic resource suggesting that thermal comfort should be understood as a form of social equity. the research expands across multiple urban scenarios from school courtyards to construction sites each revealing how adaptable cooling structures could support collective well being in increasingly harsh environmental conditions.

.
architecture as adaptation.
the pavilion advocates for an architecture that is responsive porous and resilient reclaiming comfort not through enclosure but through environmental stewardship. heatwave is presented not as a final solution but as an ongoing experiment a framework for thinking building and inhabiting differently in a warming world.

Resolution Grounds by @paris_bezanis (MArch I ’25)

Winner of the 2025 Digital Design Prize

In southern Ukraine’s Kuyalnik Estuary—shaped by ecological collapse, colonial infrastructures, and wartime inaccessibility—Resolution Grounds reimagines the architectural survey not as an objective capture, but as a contested, composite, and speculative reconstruction.

Using scraped drone footage, social media images, and incomplete archives, the project develops a fragmented survey methodology that challenges conventional digital modeling. Through AI-assisted workflows, degraded and low-resolution materials are transformed into spatial data—from sparse point clouds to warped meshes—offering new forms of architectural intervention.

Rather than striving for total resolution, Bezanis treats interference and incompleteness as design tools, proposing a new role for computation: not to visualize perfectly, but to reckon critically with the limits of visibility, access, and digital authorship.
