If you tuned in to the @todayshow on Friday morning, you were able to see a fantastic four hours of all the best Ireland has to offer…right down to the Tayto sandwiches! While they showcased many different parts of Ireland, the show based themselves in the charming town of Kenmare in Co. Kerry.

While Killarney tends to be the more popular choice as a base for those doing the Ring of Kerry, Kenmare is also a wonderful option to consider. In addition to the 5-star @sheenfalls where the Today Show stayed, there are a number of other choices for great accommodation, including the @parkkenmare, @lansdownekenmare, @kenmarebayhotelkerry, @davittskenmare and the lovely @bridge_street_townhouse, where I stayed when I visited the town a few years back.

Along with being a great location to explore from, the town itself is worth the visit! A short walk from the town centre, you’ll find a stone circle dating back to the Bronze Age with a fairy tree, a 19th-century stone arch bridge that bears a striking resemblance to the famous Stari Most (“Old Bridge”) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a gothic-style church and its very own Carnegie Arts Center, that was originally funded by Andrew Carnegie.

There’s also no end to the great food and craic that can be found in one of Kenmare’s many pubs and restaurants. And be sure to pay a visit-as they did on the Today Show-to the nearby @molly_gallivans for additional culture and history at this 200-year-old, family-run traditional farm.

Too soon? It may be for most things Christmas, but not hotel breaks… several have sold out already.

We’ve got a list of 20 Christmas hotel breaks in Ireland in the Irish Independent (read it at independent.ie/travel) and here’s a sample of several of those 🎅🏼🎄🛎️

Questions? Ask us in the comments 👇

Readers and followers have already sent in queries, and we have a quick fire round as well - touching on stays that are dog-friendly, that are good at the luxury, affordable and mid-ranges, and a tip for solos.

Featured here in the visuals are just a handful - including the College Green Hotel in Dublin, Anantara The Marker, Ocean Sands Hotel in Co Sligo, Park Hotel Kenmare, Mount Juliet in Co Kilkenny, The Leinster in Dublin, The Hodson Bay Hotel in Co Westmeath, The Rabbit in Co Antrim, Falls Hotel in Co Clare, Parknasilla in Co Kerry, Limerick Strand and Farnham Estate in Co Cavan.

A landmark commitment to contemporary visual art in Ireland. 🌿🎨

Dublin Gallery Weekend is delighted to announce a new five-year partnership with @parkkenmare and Dromgarriff Rainforest.

Beginning this year, Park Hotel Kenmare will acquire an artwork by an exhibiting Dublin Gallery Weekend artist for its renowned private collection.

The same recipient will also be awarded a two-week creative retreat at Dromgarriff Rainforest along Glengarriff in County Cork—offering dedicated time and space to reflect, unwind, and develop their practice within one of Ireland’s rare temperate oakwood sanctuaries.

Welcoming guests to Kenmare Bay since 1897, Park Hotel Kenmare has long united historic heritage with contemporary culture. Under the stewardship of Bryan and Tara Meehan, the hotel is home to an expansive art collection featuring works by Dorothy Cross, Sean Scully, Andy Warhol, and Callum Innes.

This new five-year initiative reflects a shared commitment to artistic patronage—building meaningful, lasting connections between culture, hospitality, and place.

Swipe through to explore the announcement, and visit dublingalleryweekend.ie for full details. ✨

“Supplier-wise, we have great people we work with here at the hotel.” Meet Cyril O’Donoghue, our local prawn supplier and one of the great people Head Chef James O’Sullivan is talking about. Fresh from the waters around us, Cyril’s prawns make the short journey from Kenmare Bay to the kitchen at the Park.
Great produce, great people, right on our doorstep.
