NEW PARKOUR PARK!

UPDATE: NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Our incredible team at @parkourdesign have been working hard for several months to get the UK’s newest Parkour Park ready to go, and it’s now on the verge of opening to the public.

Built for Reigate and Banstead Council in Surrey, the park is in Merstham and is a public-use space designed for both traceurs and gen-pop to move in.

With challenge zones ranging from beginner to advanced, the space will keep even highly skilled practitioners engaged for years, and we can’t wait to see how the community puts it to use.

Stay tuned for Grand Opening event details, and make sure to follow @parkourdesign for info and news on other builds worldwide 👊

You guys have been requesting this parkour park a lot over the last few weeks, so I took my chances and visited ahead of the official opening (Which the builders told me would be this Friday)

Firstly, I want to give a huge thank you to the builders who allowed me to go into the space to get some content.

This new parkour park was part of a £3.5mln development on the Merstham recreation ground by Reigate & Banstead Council, and it is developed by @parkourdesign & @parkourgenerations

The space is large, with lots of variety and different equipment. It’s one of the biggest parks I have visited so far.

My one criticism of this place is the cheesy graffiti on the side of some of the equipment. It’s a bit of an eyesore, and usually I would look past it. However, by adding these pieces of art, some of the walls have become slippery, and become challenging to use. Hopefully this will wear down and get better over time.

Some of the scaffolding bars also don’t look the strongest… There are a few that bend and dip upon impact - Only time will tell how these will hold up.

The park is split into two sections - You have a beginner/entry level section, where the equipment and landing spaces are lower to the ground, before moving to the second half of the park which is for the more advanced practitioner.

Cheesy paintings aside, you will have a good session at this park. Those who have visited have already dubbed it as one of the more exciting parkour parks in the UK, and it gets a 4 out of 5 David Belles.

I’ve also made a full park tour video on my YouTube channel - Check the link in my bio to watch that!

Thanks @raelitaylor for the first clip!

Our @parkourdesign team is two weeks out from completion of the latest Parkour Park in the U.K. - Merstham, Surrey.

Movement spaces like this challenge people to explore what their bodies and minds can do.

They promote play, physicality and the development of risk-management skills in both kids and adults.

We applaud Reigate and Banstead Council for investing in such a vital project, and we’ll make sure you’re all invited to the grand opening!

NEW PARKOUR PARK IN THE UK!

Our team at @parkourdesign are producing another incredible Parkour Park, this one going in at Merstham in the Reigate and Banstead area of Surrey, England.

Tasked by the local council with creating a space for people of all ages to move, train, get fit and stay healthy, we have been working with Blakedown Landscapes to produce something truly functional.

In design, simple is often effective. There’s no need for hi-tech, digital playgrounds when all evidence shows that humans respond best to challenging and unique obstacle-rich environments.

The Merstham Park is now under construction and should be open for use in early 2025.

NEW PARKOUR PARK: BELMONT, USA

In a world of increasingly uninformed safetyism where kids and adults are losing their agency to play, move, explore and manage risk, adventure play spaces like this are a welcome tonic!

Our Boston team have been working on this special project for a while and it’s been well worth the wait.

Repost from @pkgenboston
•
It’s been a long time coming but we’re excited announce that the Parkour Park at Belmont Town Field is finally open! This project started a number of years ago as a community-led initiative to refurbish a very outdated playground space and has overcome quite a few obstacles along the way!

Designed through a collaboration between @pkgenboston and our good friends at @_tracespace this park is designed to accommodate local practitioners of all ages and abilities while also highlighting some of the more “native” New England surfaces (local wood and granite, lots of brick) so that users can become comfortable moving in a variety of environments.

Big shoutout to @belmontrecma for the foresight and for planting another flag in the sand as they help to lead the way in redefining how natural movement, dynamic play, and creative public spaces can be interwoven to build stronger and healthier communities!

Work in process.

Whenever you put time into creating something, it’s inevitable that you will become immersed in the detail, lost in the process to such an extent that you will momentarily lose sight of the whole.

Momentarily.

Then, when it’s done and you step back to assess your work, the immersion falls away and you are blessed with a brief moment of revelation that something entirely new has been brought into being.

Then this too passes and it’s back to the process.

Chop wood, carry water.
