🥬 What’s your favorite lettuce to grow? Let me know in the comments! 👇

☀️ If you garden in the South, you know the struggle of growing romaine lettuce only to have it bolt before you can harvest it! 🌱

This year, I’m trying three more heat tolerant varieties!

🥬 Red Sails: Beautiful red leaves packed with anthocyanins, the antioxidants responsible for that gorgeous color!

🥬 Buttercrunch: Sweet, tender, buttery leaves with better heat tolerance than many other butterhead varieties!

🥬 Super Jericho: A romaine type bred for hot climates that can handle warmer temperatures before bolting!

🌱 You can find seeds for all three from my friends over @parkseedco , along with their BioDome Seed Starting System, which is one of my favorite ways to get seedlings started indoors! 🌿

Which of these would you grow in your garden? 👇

🍠 Sweet potato harvests might just be one of our favorite family traditions! 🥰

The kids were out of school for fall break, so naturally, we spent some of that time digging for treasure in the garden! And WOW, did we find some! 🤩

Believe it or not, ALL of these sweet potatoes came from just ONE packet of Georgia Jet sweet potato starter plants from Park Seed! 🤯

I’ve been growing Georgia Jet sweet potatoes for the past several years, and they are hands down my FAVORITE variety I’ve ever grown. They’re incredibly prolific, produce some absolutely MASSIVE sweet potatoes, and have consistently outperformed every other variety I’ve tried!

Last year, we harvested one that was practically the size of a newborn baby! 😂🍠 I don’t think we broke that record this year, but we definitely dug up some monsters! I still need to get a few of these on the scale!

And honestly, as much as I love growing them, watching the kids get so excited every time they uncover another giant sweet potato might be my favorite part. ❤️

So much fun to grow, even more fun to harvest, and now we get to enjoy eating them!

🍠 Have you ever grown sweet potatoes? What’s the biggest one you’ve ever harvested?

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how BEAUTIFUL kohlrabi is?! 😍💜🌱

Seriously, this is one of my absolute favorite vegetables to grow! This gorgeous Konstance Kohlrabi from @parkseedco looks like something straight out of another planet, and I just can’t get enough of it! 👽💚

If you’ve never tried kohlrabi, you’re missing out! It has a delicious, mild, slightly sweet flavor with a satisfying crunch, almost like a cross between broccoli stems and a sweet turnip. It’s amazing eaten raw, roasted, sautéed, or tossed into salads!

And one of the BEST things about growing kohlrabi? It’s FAST! Many varieties are ready to harvest in just 45–60 days, making it an awesome addition to your spring or fall garden. Plus, the leaves are edible too!

Beautiful, delicious, easy to grow, AND quick to harvest?! What’s not to love?! 😍

💚 Have you ever grown or eaten kohlrabi? I’d love to know what you think of it!

Why Can Some Seeds Survive for Decades?

Some seeds can remain dormant for many years—even decades—without growing. This remarkable ability is called seed longevity.

🌾 1. They enter dormancy
A dormant seed essentially pauses its growth. Its metabolism becomes extremely low, allowing it to conserve energy until conditions become suitable.

💧 2. Very little water
Many long-lived seeds become extremely dry. Low moisture slows chemical reactions and helps prevent microorganisms from damaging the seed.

🛡️ 3. Protective seed coats
A tough outer seed coat can protect the embryo from physical damage, oxygen, and moisture while the seed is waiting.

🧬 4. Natural chemical protection
Seeds contain protective compounds and specialized proteins that help stabilize their cells and protect DNA and other structures during long periods of storage.

🌡️ 5. Temperature matters
Cool, dry storage generally extends seed life. That’s why seed banks carefully control temperature and humidity to preserve plant genetic diversity.

🌱 6. But not all seeds last equally long
Some seeds lose viability quickly, while others can remain viable for many years. Longevity depends on the species, seed quality, moisture, temperature, and storage conditions.

🌾 The agricultural connection

For farmers, seed longevity matters because good storage can preserve planting material from one season to the next. For seed banks, it is even more important: long-term storage helps conserve valuable crop varieties and genetic resources.

My sweet potato vines have officially taken over the garden! 😂🍠🌿

We made the mistake of planting our sweet potatoes in a @smartpots a little too close to the garden entrance, and now I can barely walk through my own garden! 😂 These vines are EVERYWHERE!

But honestly, I can’t wait to see what’s growing underneath all that craziness! These are Georgia Jet sweet potatoes from @parkseedco , and in the past, they’ve produced some of the BIGGEST sweet potatoes I’ve ever seen. And they taste absolutely incredible! 😍

With this much vine growth, I’m really hoping we’ve got some monsters hiding in there! 🤞🍠

Have you grown sweet potatoes this year? Are yours taking over everything too?! 😂

If you love zinnias but want something a little more compact, you HAVE to check out Zahara zinnias! 🌸

I grew these Double Zahara™ Raspberry Ripple zinnias from @parkseedco, and I absolutely love them. You can really see the size difference when they’re growing next to some of my taller zinnias. They stay much shorter and more compact, but still give you tons of gorgeous blooms!

They’re easy to grow, handle the heat really well, and I love how unique these Raspberry Ripple flowers are. Such a good option for smaller spaces, borders, containers, or anywhere you want lots of color without a really tall plant.

Definitely adding more Zahara zinnias to my garden! 🌸

Looking to plant root crops this fall? Spacing is everything! We are the biggest fans of seed tape because it takes away all of the guess work 🌱

Thank you @parkseedco for one of our favorite gardening hacks. Perfect spacing means plants aren’t fighting for water, airflow and room, giving you a larger and more bountiful harvest!

One of the best things I ever did in our vegetable garden was dedicate an entire 4x8 raised bed to zinnias! 🌸🐝

I’ve been filling this bed with Park’s Picks zinnias from @parkseedco for several years now, and they’ve easily become some of my favorite zinnias to grow year after year!

The blooms are HUGE, the pollinators absolutely love them, and those long, sturdy stems make them perfect for cutting. All summer long, I can walk out to the garden, cut a handful, and bring fresh flowers inside! 💐

And now I get even more excited about what happens at the end of the season! I save plenty of seeds to plant again, but I also intentionally leave some of the flower heads right where they are and let those seeds fall into the bed. Every spring, I get volunteer zinnias popping up on their own, and they are VERY welcome here! 😂

Beautiful flowers, tons of pollinators, fresh bouquets all summer, AND seeds for next year. There’s a reason I keep growing Park’s Picks year after year!

Have you ever adjusted your soil pH? 🌳🧪

The soil test showed a pH of 5.3 around this Asian pear, so it’s time to make an adjustment. 🪏

⬆️ Soil too acidic? Garden Lime helps raise pH.
⬇️ Soil too alkaline? Soil Acidifier helps lower pH.
🧪 Test first, adjust based on the results, then retest a few months later.

Make sure to checkout Park Seed @parkseedco for the MySoil Soil Test Kit, Garden Lime, and Soil Acidifier to help take the guesswork out of it! 🌱

Is your soil pH keeping your fruit trees from thriving? 👇

Who says hanging baskets have to be just for flowers?!

I’m growing some beautiful edible plants in my front yard this fall, and these baskets are going to be SO pretty!

I’m filling my @smartpots No-Coco liners hanging baskets with some gorgeous varieties from @parkseedco :
🥬 Park’s Tricolor Romaine Blend
🫛 Patio Pride peas around the edges so they can cascade down
🌈 Bright Lights Swiss chard
🌿 Mustard greens

I did this last year and loved it so much! There are so many edible plants that are genuinely beautiful, so why not use them as part of your landscaping?

You can have the pretty hanging baskets AND harvest food from them! 🙌

If you’re planting for fall, think beyond the traditional garden bed and find little spaces around your home where you can sneak in something edible!
