POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

☝️one of my favorite objects, projects, and collective experiences of the year. Grateful for enthusiastic and dedicated friends who want to do weird stuff like digging very big holes for very big fires.

Proud of this double poster/publication. Thinking a lot of posters as artifacts, posters as objects, posters as memories and legitimizers and records of existence. Print as a means of preservation.

Two risograph posters, sewn on one end into a book structure.

Spent the day photo-ing the current showing at Northern Southern, “Fitting” by the art collective of @starbuckra @muelhaupt and @superpattern . I left the gallery lights off and let the pieces sit in their slumber, hoping to hold that intimacy in each frame.

Shocked and deeply humbled by this thoughtful story about ATS and it’s recent pit fire with Partial Shade, published by Sightlines. Vivie is such an attentive writer and artist, and it’s so comforting to see the ethos and research that underpins ATS’s projects articulated in print, especially in a fancy place like @sightlinesmag ;)

You can read it at the link in my bio💟

A Pit Fire with @partial_shade is this weekend at All the Sudden!! 🔥 been making these ceramic containers of dirt and space and somethings and I can’t wait to nestle them into a much larger hole that we dug into the ground, and then unearth them the next day- transformed by heat and smoke and atmosphere. Come see how it goes

Finally able to share some more proper documentation of last December's project, TRANSMISSION/S.
🚙
TRANSMISSION/S is a collation of writings, images, and thoughts by each of the 14 contributing artists and collectives—designed and printed by Connor Frew of Flatpack Publications in December of 2019—as a companion to the Partial Shade exhibition, TRANSMISSION. Tremendous thanks to Emily, Henry, Rachael, Michael, and Jesse for inviting me onto the collaboration, and to all artists and exhibitors for the amazing work.
🚗
The publication stems from a mission of Flatpack Publications—to actively engage with the ejecta of the published space. A road movie, unique in its production structure, shot in linear fashion, alongside the timeline of the plot itself. Documentary that recognizes the ontology of passenger and vessel, mindful of speed limits.
🚚
TRANSMISSION/S is an edition of 50.

🍃Jake Bruner in Transmission🌙 // The place Jake works at was throwing away this tree and letting it die in this big expensive vase outside. We transported it in my truck, and basically I think of this performance of planting it as a pit stop to its home in Jake’s brother’s yard. I saw something they made at the design thesis show because I had escaped a conversation at this really gigantic opening at the VAC and it was super touching. rly rly it was an honor and very cool to facilitate someone’s poetic action in a vehicle I use for logistical things. Like that’s something that is such a gift in a city that is forever under construction—to see circumstances operate sentimentally. Jake’s work that I’ve seen always gives me the feelin that someone worked on it, even if no one is there , I feel like mi truck was blessd 📷 by @henry.smith.henry.smith

🌀Zoe Berg in Transmission🕰 // once upon a time my thesis advisor emailed Zoe and I to tell us we should hang out which is very cute. Zoe’s actually made work for her car before for her residency at one of my fave places Mass Gallery but that’s not even really the reason why she was on our minds for who to ask to b a part of the exhibit! It’s more bc she navigates temporality personal history, distances of all kinds, mementos and charged objects. I feel like Zoe’s so aware of all the ways a thing or a place can be a container. I found a bubble like forty feet from her car which is key!!! 📷 by @henry.smith.henry.smith

🛋 Itamar Benitez in Transmission📍// Itamar is a friend of mine from undergrad, we met in one of the best classes I’ve ever taken, itamar sat in front of me and turned around to ask if I wanted to be his partner in a duo writing assignment, we wrote essays about porn and veganism and my dog Bean and maybe something else, and also something that was very important in this show was that it included friends and strangers and students and not-students, and this piece became a cozy living room beacon as the sun set, performed with his friend Jaya, and I see itamar at central market which also is a grocery store ?? 📷 by @henry.smith.henry.smith

⏳Lesser Gonzales Alvarez🏺in Transmission // I met Lesser at the Fresh Plus in my old neighborhood. I went on a date once with his coworker who told me that he was a really stellar artist which is tru and then next time I was at fresh plus buying a can of tomatoes I told him I followed him on instagram and liked his work a lot. There’s unfired clay and 3d prints in there which feels important. 📷 by @henry.smith.henry.smith
