Opening
Palästina zwischen Augen
Friday, October 16, 2026, 6–10 pm

📆 Sat, 17.10.26 – Sun, 3.1.27
📍 nGbK, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 11/13, 10178 Berlin
🕒 Opening hours: Tue–Sun 12–6 pm, Fri 12–20 pm

nGbK is a place where artists and curators regularly invite the public to discuss issues affecting society. Palästina zwischen Augen is an exhibition and public program that brings together film and video, installation, sound, photography, and drawing.

The curators describe the exhibition as follows: “Palästina zwischen Augen examines the social structures that shape how we perceive, and how these structures determine whose humanity becomes visible, recognizable and worthy of empathy.
Despite the overwhelming availability of visual evidence, testimony and live-streamed footage from Gaza and the wider region, the acknowledgment that these document a genocide is broadly withheld in dominant German discourse. This refusal is sustained by a normalized disavowal of Palestinian subjectivity. The exhibition asks how this is possible.
Palästina zwischen Augen intervenes in the realm of perception. It brings together artistic practices that confront racial hierarchies and the criminalization of solidarity with Palestine; trace continuities of coloniality through public and family archives; address Palestinian diaspora and histories of solidarity with Palestinian liberation in the GDR; reclaim narratives of destruction from within erased lifeworlds; and draw on collective perseverance and anticolonial internationalism as forms of resistance.
Palästina zwischen Augen insists on the necessity of a public space in which we can question the limits placed on our gaze — and reassemble, together, as a collective sensorium.”

Our apricot garden bloomed in awe, in the tenderest of nights, during which we crossed several timelines, whilst we celebrated Gabriëlle’s legacy, welcomed by Ana Texeira Pinto, we revised some of the anachronisms of our contemporary struggles with Angela Harutyunyan, we lingered over hereness and returned to revolutionary pamphlets with Monika Janulevičūtė and Noah Brehmer, we read through the many folds of state repression with Pary El-Qalqili, with commotion we delivered our gift to our departing dearest director, and then witnessed the extensive losses of the long running Israeli aggression in the South of Lebabon, as told by mourning mothers, in films presented by Marwa Arsanios and with teary eyes listened to Avan Oman singing along Ali Authman’s violin, and then cheered for the launch of Leire Vergara, Leon Filter, Marwa Arsanios’ “A Cut Through the Screen: Struggles’ Reverberations in Cinema,” the result of eight years of their COOP tutoring. Then we moved across the street to Body Talk, to dance with Aziza Harmel & Bassam El Baroni, because the DAI always has been also and (perhaps) foremost our night school.

Thank you to all of you who have been there with us, and to BAK basecamp for making us feel home.

The exhibition will be on show at BAK basecamp till October 17, 2026. Check out the catalogue at our link in bio.

To celebrate Gabriëlle Schleijpen’s legacy as artistic director of the DAI (2002-2026) the second edition of APRiCot Garden 2026 will revisit the enduring questions posed by one of DAI’s founding projects. “Here as the Centre of the World” sought to locate the pulse of global power and resistance; its afterlife has shaped the school’s trajectory, which has brought us precisely here, to this point, to this gathering, at this moment. It is from this vantage—shaped by years of collective practice and shared questioning—that we now come together, refusing to ground community on identity, but instead insist that belonging is forged through shared production, struggle, and infrastructure.

Our two-day public symposium will carry forward the 1906 General Jewish Labour Bund’s insight that arguing and leafleting are not merely tools for spreading pre-existing knowledge but the actual sites where revolutionary knowledge is forged. We hold that these buried futures are precisely what must be reactivated—not as nostalgia, but as a critical inheritance, the very ground on which a politics worthy of our genocidal times must be built.

Together with Gabriëlle we maintain our shared commitment to building a home in the friction of shared struggle, and to the work that continues to define our path.

Join us on 3+4 October for insightful panels, lecture-performances, an agitational workshop, a spatial dramaturgy of art works, the launch of “A Cut Through the Screen: Struggles’ Reverberations in Cinema” and an experiment with the dance floor as curatorial space and place of study.

🫟 Kollektives Drucken & Zine-Launch 📚

UMJETNICE: Pary El-Qalqili & Marta Popivoda, Basyma Saad (& Sanja Grozdanić)
KUSTOSICE: Što, kako i za koga / WHW & Ana Kovačić

U 19 sati održat će se razgovor s umjetnicama Pary El-Qalqili, Martom Popivodom i Basymom Saad uz moderaciju Kate Sutton, a u 20 sati otvaramo izložbu.

O radovima:
ICH BIN HIER, ICH BIN DA, 2025, Pary El-Qalqili i Marte Popivode nalazi načine komunikacije bez jezika.
