Connected by the ocean ♥️

Vinaka vakalevu 🌺 @piclinicians @pasifikainfocus So many thanks to the wonderful folks who pulled this conference together 🥹 it was so special to connect with Pasifika folk from all over the US, New Zealand and Australia over the sheer purpose of improving mental health in our communities. As an APCC finishing up my hours it’s important to me that I give back to the people that are often overlooked and underrepresented in our healthcare system. Meeting other clinicians who represent the people of Fiji, where my family inherited their compassion and service oriented spirit from, truly warmed my heart. And after hearing data, practices and real conversations tailored to our island people, I feel so revived in how I want to treat all my patients as I continue my practice.

Sota tale to the Pasifika Mental Health Conference fam !

TEINE TOA MO ASO UMA 💪🏽

This spring M.A.N.A. piloted first cohort of Teine Toa with elementary & middle school girls—our groups were filled with so much energy, honesty, creativity, and connection 🌊🫶🏽

Through self-care, fun activities, and honest discussions about growing up ‘Nesian, our young girls showed up and showed out 🌉❤️‍🔥

One participant shared:
“I loved this program and it made me feel heard ... I’d come back again.” 💜

We covered topics ranging from health to self love to the cycles of the moon and by the end of our 6weeks together 100% of participants reported feeling more positive about their bodies! 🙌🏽✨

TT Groups are a space where our Islander girls can learn together in a supportive environment & build confidence to navigate & succeed in this world.

This fall, we’re launching TEINE TOA COHORT 2 for our high school keige 🙂‍↕️ Group starts Wednesday 9/16 at TheHUB in Sunnydale .. tap in at bit.ly/teineyoasf or stay tuned for more info 🫶🏼

Our Tama'ita'i Toa Mothers' Groups started in 2021 as a way to prepare and support our community mamas as yal birthed & nourished the next generation. Over the last 5 years we talked story, learned, laughed, cried and crafted with over 250 moms, kids and family members with the goal of Maintaining Ancestral kNowledge & rebuilding community Autonomy.

As M.A.N.A. has evolved so has our understanding of how best to meet the needs of the community, especially in service of improving pregnancy, birth & postpartum outcomes. We know that when Pasefika Women are healthy, happy and well-informed our families thrive and that when our mamas are cared for physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually the fruits of this care will nourish for generations to come 🌱🌴🥥

To that end, we introduce yal to MALU - a group for us to gather, learn and grow in the shelter of culture and care. We envision this group as a place to
🌌 Reclaim our understanding of Tapu as Sacred rather than off-limits;
🌌 Remember how to ask questions and learn about our bodies with respect & reverence for our traditions;
🌌 Receive the information we need to stay healthy, ask better questions and build self/family advocacy skills.

Each month we will have two sessions - first one discussion-based with a focus on health education, the second activity-based and following up on the conversation from session 1.

MALU will meet on Tuesday evenings at TheHUB in Sunnydale in SF with dinner served at 5 so bring your sis and the kids to fill your cup while we take dinner off your plate!

What topics do you want to learn about??
