She's the DJ who gave us the faith to start Barefoot Beats — and now she's coming to MAKE. YOU. DANCE!!🎶✨️🥳

Back in June 2024, we were completely transfixed by @dunyalamrhari set at a festival. The energy, the music, the pure good vibes she brought to the dancefloor — it lit us up and helped give us the faith that Barefoot Beats could exist. We found her after the set, gave her some love, and a connection was born 💛

Now we're bringing her from Bristol to Levenshulme for a special BB extended edition on Saturday 11th July — and we cannot wait!

Dunya's planning a journey through dub/reggae, house, Latina, Afro/SWANA house, garage and dnb — with some fun remixes thrown in because, as she put it, "it's uplifting when we can all sing songs we love." This is going to be something really special.

We also want to be honest with you — this *may* be the last Barefoot Beats for 2026. So if you want to help us go out with a bang until 2027, this is the one💥🕺 💃

Tickets are already selling — don't sleep on it.

First of all: <10 tickets left for Saturday 14th March, so if you are thinking of coming to the BB inauguration of DJ JBird, get in there double quick! 🎟🏃‍♂️ (ticket link in bio)

Secondly: we've been pretty politically active recently, so feels important to be explicit about what we stand for here at BB HQ....

We started BB as a community-building space. A place for people to feel safe, connected and joyful.

There's a lot of messed up stuff happening in the world (and let's face it - everything is politics) so we've been shouting at Fascists and campaigning for the Greens, who we truly believe represent something new - positive change for communities with inclusive and progressive policies.

Whatever your politics*, we welcome you. Dancing is an act of freedom, hope and resistance.

Finally: if you're in our constituency, don't forget to vote on 26th February* ✊️💚

*unless you're a racist / fascist. Then you can do one and don't bother voting 🤪

We're feeling inspired, grounded and ready to bring our authentic selves for the dance this weekend! 🦨🦡✨️

See you there, gorgeous ones 👋

PS if you get the chance to enjoy sunnybrow and the incredible Suzy-Ann: seize it. Pure magic 🌟💖

We’re now officially Doctors P!

Two silly hats. One shared love of joyful movement 🥰

Naomi graduated her doctorate this week 🎓🥳

And since I work at the Uni (with my own set of letters), the only way to attend was to put on my gown and join the staff procession.

Cue us both swanning around in academic robes, then dancing to a live jazz band after the ceremony. Because ecstatic dance can happen anywhere. Even at graduation.💃😂

Between us, we’ve spent a long time studying how to help humans feel, heal and connect.

This is what Barefoot Beats is rooted in:
✨ a lot of joy
✨ clinical expertise
✨ and the belief that movement and connection can be deeply healing

👣 Our next dance is just 1 week away — Friday 25 July
🎟️ Grab your ticket via the link in bio

Let the Doctors write you a prescription for your soul*.

(Side effects may include joy, spontaneous dancing and deep connection)

*smallprint: we cannot actually write prescriptions 🤪

**4 weeks to go. Two modes of waiting:**

🧘‍♀️ Deep calm, inner stillness, perfect presence.
🌀 Absolute chaos, cannot contain self, dance fever rising.💃

We’re somewhere between the two at all times 😅

**Barefoot Beats returns 25th July.**

#Meet your #hosts

Naomi - I’m a Doctoral Counselling Psychologist ... After so much focus on mental health, I want to explore the overlap and interconnectedness between physical, mental, social and spiritual health. Ecstatic dance is all of these things. I’m so excited to shift my therapeutic skills into something more playful and embodied in this space.”

Emma - “As a Doctoral research psychologist and musician, I’ve always been fascinated by the ways we connect—through words, sound, and movement. I’ve spent years facilitating groups and exploring how we can create spaces where people feel free to express themselves authentically. For me, music and dance are some of the most powerful tools for connection—both with ourselves and with others. I can’t wait to share this space with you and see what unfolds! You can ‘meet’ me before the event on instagram if you like: @patchwoodmusic and @scienceandsoulemma
