#subsunday with the 14060, and it’s Phoenix nato time.

There’s something undeniably purposeful about the 14060, a proper tool that’s still capable of anything. Getting on a bit, a little rough round the edges, but can still throw a punch if backed into a corner. I like it.

During the meeting up the other night @hendersonshorology said I was welcome to borrow his rather fabulous Tudor Submariner for a bit as I’m in the reference choosing stage with regards to another Sub.

It’s been an arduous journey weighing up so many variables.

Modern: bulletproof, amazing tolerances, contemporary looks. However wore too large and I felt lacked a little character.

5 digit Rolex: vintage ish looking, robust enough for swims and daily life. Does one go sans date with hollow end links or date with solid links, tritium or super luminova. Bad aspect, the crystal reflects like a mofo.

4 digit Rolex: oh my 🥹 true vintage with less robustness, with even more charm, plexi crystals and best of all matte dials. Probably not good enough for a daily wear.

Now enter the 79090. Looks like a 1680 Submariner, plexi crystal, matte dial, still robust for daily life, legibility 👌🏻 We might have a winner here!!

Spotted a Phoenix strap in one of @lar5erik posts and shortly after, I had one on the way from @patinanationale. It’s an absolutely beautiful pairing with the SMP!

Just as nice was the experience with Oliver - genuinely kind, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I also picked up one of their new watchrolls which will definitely be joining me on plenty of trips ahead.

When I posted my Sub on a nato, Oliver (patinanationale) sent me a message saying that I need a original Phoenix strap. So I ordered one and it’s a perfect match for the Sub, true classic coolness! I’ve had it on this since I got it, two weeks or so. I really like how it makes the Sub look more casual, leaning to the toolwatch heritage. If you want to get one, do your research, I’ve heard there are some imposters around!
