After some delay, another incredible show from my summer season at the Santa Fe Opera, Lili Elbe! Designed by the wonderful Allen Moyer, directed by James Robinson, and charged by Laura Greenfield, I got to help throw texture and paint and all kinds of things at this incredible set! Pictures really don’t do this experience justice. It will be continuing its journey at the Seattle Opera in 2029.

Today was my first day back at work after being out for about a week for all things art and I found myself thinking about all the unseen labor that goes into any installation, or even just showing up for any work.

This installation wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible folks who showed up sharing their time, skill, patience, and moral support. From fabrication to fine detail work to just being present, each part mattered deeply. Gosh knows I needed every bit of help.

Thank you for being part of the behind-the-scenes magic. 💛

Image 1: Erin and Damon on the final day of installation.
Image 2: Sabrina carefully handling artifacts and porcelain pieces with evident care and respect.
Image 3: All hands on deck securing the firearms display mount, steady eyes and deft movements at work.
Image 4: Laura (from SAR) onsite to assist with installing the Acoma storage jar.
Image 5: Late Friday evening, when two IAIA colleagues arrived to offer support.
Image 6: Erin troubleshooting a lighting puck that did not immediately fit into place.
Image 7: Mike inspecting the installation and methodically considering its intent.
Image 8: The largest, heaviest box being installed first - tackling the most challenging piece head-on.
Image 9: Box-taping in progress, with Estevan stepping in to relieve me from cutting and attaching rubber and felt.
Image 10: The first day of installation, moving boxes through the original Palace doors.
Image 11: Schuyler welding with precision and control directly beside porcelain.
Image 12: A late-night image-transfer session with Margarita in Burque, a moment when friends gave me space to breathe.
Image 13: Preparing to apply porcelain to Porter’s belts after completing Alicia’s blouse; hands stained with manganese. Gloves would have been wise.
Image 14: A high-stress day as I sat with various items excavated from the Palace of the Governors.
Image 15: My furry companion, always there to offer comfort.
Image 16: Pre-contact pottery, which I was grateful to be in the presence of.
Image 17: The SITE crew conducting the first test installation with a mock display box.

Reposting from @sitesantafe with a few extra photos of my own(7-10). I have so much respect and love for the entire SITE SANTA FE crew. It was a truly wonderful experience getting to work with such an incredible team so much this past winter (spent a total of two months in Santa Fe from October to January) as well as installing in Venice for the Biennale. Another perk at SITE SANTA FE is working with some of the sweetest doggos around Charles and Harley 🥰 huge thank you to @jeffrune, the best boss ❤️
