Thank you to our members, board, staff, partners, and conservation organizations who joined us for the 2026 Texas Conservation Alliance Annual Meeting at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge.

Founded in 1971, TCA is the Texas state affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation and has expanded significantly over the past five years to address important conservation issues facing Texans, including water and water policy, habitat fragmentation, advocacy, outreach, and education.

A special thank you to Pat Murray, National President of the Coastal Conservation Association, for a great keynote discussion on building strong conservation organizations through fundraising, membership, advocacy, and habitat work, and for his continued commitment to conservation in Texas and leadership on the national stage.

Conservation is a long game. It takes strong partnerships, shared purpose, and people willing to do the work. We’re grateful to everyone who is part of it.

I’m always grateful for the opportunity to contribute to magazines such as TIDE. This issue was super cool for a few reasons. For one, I got to write about one of my favorite fish - Texas tarpon. I’ve chased these fish as an angler, guide and photographer since the mid-90s. Over the last decade, I can’t even count how many of those trips were with my good buddy @capt_brianbarrera. Brian was on the other end of the rod for all of these shots, including the one the editors were kind enough to place on the cover. Secondly, I had a few photos run alongside the jetty fishing piece written by Joe Doggett. Reading Joe’s work in the Houston Chronicle as a kid stoked my passion for fishing, writing and adventure. In later years I was lucky enough to get to know Joe a bit and even fish with him on the South Padre jetties. So, I was super stoked to have my pics illustrate his article.

@patrickdmurray served as commencement speaker for the Fall 2025 graduates of Texas A&M Corpus Christi @island_university

Rather than focusing on his current role as National President of CCA and The Building Conservation Trust, he shared life lessons shaped by years on the water as a fishing guide—adapting to changing conditions and learning from experience.

A thoughtful message to the TAMU–CC Class of 2025, congrats grads! 🎓🌊

The Coastal Conservation Committee of Stewards of the Wild spent an unforgettable weekend at Powderhorn Ranch—one of Texas’ most important coastal restoration projects and a beloved piece of coastal habitat.

Hosted at Shoalwater Bay Lodge, we heard from CCA President Pat Murray, planted native Indian grass alongside TPWD experts, and wrapped it all up with some top-tier fishing, thanks to the generous support of Ranch Water Rentals and their crew.

A huge thanks to everyone who made this possible. Conservation, connection, and a whole lot of fun.

The Harvey Weil dinner (Corpus Christi Rotary Club) honors individuals who have made significant contributions to conservation. These are some of the most prestigious conservation awards in the Country.

The Professional Conservationist of the Year award was created to recognize the distinction between individuals who bring passion and conviction to their personal conservation efforts, and those who have made this endeavor their life’s work.

Conservation is Patrick Murray’s life work. Period.

It was an absolute honor to see my amigo, @patrickdmurray receive the 2025 Conservationist Professional Award last night at the Welder Wildlife Refuge.
