✨ WELLA COLOUR CRAFT – CREATIVE GENIUS ✨

THE CONSULT
My client loves thinking outside the box and experimenting with creative colour, while still wanting a natural-looking grow-out. Starting with completely virgin hair, we carried out a strand test two days prior to the service and determined that we could achieve our desired result without using lightener.

THE COLOUR
I began by applying Koleston Perfect 55/65 (15g) + /65 (5g) with 6% Welloxon Perfect in a halo section, using a 1:1 mixing ratio. For the mid-lengths and ends of this section, I replaced the 6% with 12% to achieve the desired lift.

For the remaining hair, I applied Koleston Perfect 3/0 with 4% from roots to mid-lengths. Using a 0-degree angle, I then applied the previously mixed halo colour through the mid-lengths and ends of the remaining hair, gently blending the two colours together with my fingers for a seamless transition. I folded the section into foil to maximise lift.

THE FINISH
To enhance the final look, I cocktail-mixed EIMI Ocean Spritz and Perfect Me to create the perfect balance of texture and smoothness. I blow-dried the hair and finished with Glam Mist and Mistify Me Strong for added shine, polish and hold.

THE RESULT
A happy client and a beautiful, creative colour result achieved without the need for lightener! ❤️

A great example of thinking outside the box, understanding the chemistry of colour, and working with the hair’s natural canvas to achieve something unique. ✨

My final model for Color Craft - Color Genius #ColorCraftSpecialistANZ #ColorCraftCreativeANZ #wella_anz #colorgenius

My model had quite a bit going on with her hair history — old black box dye, bleaching, and green direct dyes. There were some interesting underlying tones to navigate, along with varying levels of condition. First of all, a big cut!

After a test strand, I knew I didn’t want to push the hair beyond a level 7 lift. With fine texture and low density, creating the illusion of fullness through depth, dimension and placement was a priority.

I also wanted to keep the root area softer and more natural, avoiding the harsh regrowth and high-maintenance commitment of something like a blue-black that she’s had previously. The goal was a colour that would wear beautifully, with the ability to maintain its vibrancy at home using Color Fresh Mask.

THE LIGHTENING

I used a star/triangle sectioning pattern, focusing the lightening around the perimeter. As I worked towards the interior of each section, I feathered and lightly backcombed to create softer transitions and a more diffused blend.

• Multi Blonde 7 + 4%
• Processed for 50 minutes, lifting to a level 7.

THE COLOUR
Pre-tone
Koleston Perfect Special Mix /28 + 1.9% at a 1:1 ratio.

Processed for 30 minutes. I wanted to see how the hair would respond to the tone before moving into my final application. I’d seen a formula using /28 and /30 online, but with the amount of gold present in my raw lift, I knew I could achieve a similar result without adding /30.

Second application

Zone 1 | Natural root

Color Touch 5/19 — 20g
0/88 — 4g
2/8 — 2g
Color Touch Emulsion 1.9% — 1:2 mixing ratio

Zone 2 | Feathered lightened areas

Koleston Perfect /28 — 10g
/88 — 2g
Pastel Developer 1.9% — 1:1 mixing ratio

Zone 3 | Mid-lengths & ends

Koleston Perfect /88 + Pastel Developer 1.9% — 1:1 mixing ratio

I processed for 25 minutes before combing the colour through and melting all three zones together for the final 10 minutes.

THE FINISH
For styling, I used:

• Silky Milk for shine and frizz control
• EIMI Iron Finish
• Mistify Me
• Glam Mist

For her at-home routine, I recommended Ultimate Color haircare, alongside

Client Consultation

Natural depth: natural level 6, pre lightened level 9.

Underlying pigment: pale yellow during required lift.

Existing colour on lengths and ends: Short, previously lightened blonde hair with warmer tones visible before the service.

Percentage of white hair: 0%

Texture: Fine to medium-looking hair, with a short, closely cropped haircut.

Porosity: Appeared relatively even visually, although the hair’s porosity and elasticity needed to be assessed during the lightening service.

Desired target shade: A clean, icy platinum-white base contrasted with bold black flame detailing and a multidimensional blue colour melt.

We chose to create a freehand flame-inspired design that follows the natural curvature of the head. The flame shapes were positioned through the back and sides, using curved, flowing lines to create movement and visual interest.

I incorporated negative space by leaving sections of platinum white between the black detailing. This allowed the flame pattern to stand out without becoming too heavy or losing definition.

The blue was strategically placed throughout the lower sections, gradually transitioning from deeper blue into softer blues.

I chose this placement to complement the client’s short haircut and create a bold, creative result that looks visually interesting from multiple angles.

Blending all the blues together!

I was particularly pleased with the contrast between the white and black, as this allowed the flame shapes to become the focal

Soft, intentional, seamless

This bleach free brunette technique, created using @wellapro_anz, enhances the shape with subtle colour, contour and depth. Keeping it low maintenance and not over coloured

I internally layered through the cut to remove weight, soften the edges and create natural movement that feels light, fluid and effortless.

The result is that beautiful undone, lived-in finish hair that falls softly, moves naturally and still holds its shape and flow.

Using @systemprofessional for care and styling @ghdhair_anz

Effortless hair, with intention in every detail.
