Amanda Strong (Director/Producer/Editor), Pamela Post (Co-Director/Screenplay) and Spotted Fawn Productions are thrilled to announce that our short stop motion animated Ts’msyen film, Haboolm Ksinaalgat (SOUL CATCHER), is making its WORLD PREMIERE at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) this September!

We’re so grateful and honoured, after over 4 years work on this beautiful Indigenous stop motion film starring Cree/Métis actress Tantoo Cardinal and Ts’msyen/German/Scottish-Canadian actor/musician Asher Maclaren, to have it showcased at TIFF.

Based on a true story from Pamela Post’s Ts’msyen father John Post, Soul Catcher sets out to right a wrong through art and to celebrate Ts’msyen worldviews and ways. With Amanda and Spotted Fawn Production’s artistry, Pamela’s story has transformed into Haboolm Ksinaalgat (Soul Catcher) - a stunning stop motion animated film filled with time-travelling supernatural adventures and Indigenous love and reckoning - and we can’t wait to share it with the world!

More details, pics and trailers coming soon!

Before this busy world starts up again, I want to express gratitude for the blessings of 2025.

On Dec. 18th, we held the production wrap party at @simplydeliciousmain for our short stop motion animated film 'Haboolm Ksinaalgat/SOUL CATCHER' - a film based on a story from my Ts'msyen dad's childhood on the Skeena River that I wrote and am co-directing with Amanda Strong.

The story came to me in the 2020 pandemic lockdown as a way to right a wrong that happened to my dad and some other Tsimshian children on the Skeena River in the early 20th century. I knew it had to be stop-motion animation.

Métis filmmaker @spottedfawnproductions, whose stop motion work I admired, came on as an early mentor, but I didn't imagine it would soon turn into a partnership & pact between Amanda & I to make 'Soul Catcher' into a jewel box of Indigenous supernatural storytelling in state-of-the-art stop motion to honour my dad's adaawx (true telling) & uplift & celebrate Ts'msyen ways and worldview.

This isn't easy. Even a short stop motion animated film at this level needs the budget of a feature film, & we're so grateful for support from @firstpeoplesculturalfoundation, @bcartscouncil @canada.council, @indigenousscreen, @shawrocketfund and contributions from a village of elders, knowledge keepers, artists, producers, actors, animators, puppet fabricators & cinematographers helping us co-create and paddle this small but mighty canoe.

Casting the great @tantoocardinal in the lead role of the powerful ancient halaayt (shaman) Gyilak'yoo (Robin) was a dream come true, as is having @greatwyattsharkk in the role of the young, gender fluid reluctant shaman's apprentice, Lu'oo'ya (Echo) in this film about his Ts'msyen grandfather.

4 months of intense production has challenged us all to our limits. We staggered over the finish line, exhausted & sick, but so grateful.

Special shout out to @wuulhu for his enormous contributions. 🙏

The crucial post-production phase & a final push for grant support still lie ahead of us. But how far we've come!

A Skeena river of gratitude to you all & prayers for a more peaceful world in 2026 where we can all follow our dreams.

Wayi wah!

Y’all! This walnut pasta dish was EPIC. Al Capone’s favorite pasta dish apparently. Rustic. Earthy. Tangy. Sooooo good. Cooking adventures with Patty.
