“Something in the Water” OPENING THIS WED
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️Wednesday, April 15, at 6 pm ⚡️⚡️⚡️
The group exhibition (co-curated by Andreas Steinbrecher) brings together new voices in contemporary painting, featuring Haien Choi, Lucas Kaiser, Hanna Kuster, Paul DD Smith, and Andreas Steinbrecher.

At its core is a renewed approach to pictorial composition—marked by a return to drawing and an expanded use of imagery (both everyday and iconographic), opening up new narrative possibilities for painting.

An accompanying essay, “A Crocodile Swimming in Deep Water” by Jorge M. Sanguino, reflects on the developments and emerging conditions of painting that become visible in the exhibition.

Goodbye, 2024 ✨ Hello, 2025 💫🌟

Earlier this year I had the duo exhibition with @paul.dd.smith at @kunstverein_rlp . I showed this painting titled Global Shower.

I worked with the theme of bathers and explored the effects of the voyeuristic gaze. My research included the strange bathroom self-portraits by George W. Bush, or the escape from prison of Mexico’s drug lord El Chapo. I reflected on the term Bodily integrity which is the inviolability of the physical body and emphasizes the importance of personal autonomy, self-ownership, and self-determination of human beings over their own bodies. In the field of human rights, violation of the bodily integrity of another is regarded as an unethical infringement, intrusive, and possibly criminal.
