I am an American living in London pursuing my Masters in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at University of the Arts London.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I can't be the only one that struggles with the motivation to make Instagram posts. For whatever reason, I lack the inspiration. his prompted me to think about the last single photograph (of my own) that has inspired me to make more photographs.

On my search for that image, I found these images of my Masters cohort. These inspire me because of the people in them, students of storytelling and curiosity.

It's inspiring to see the depth of the research they go into to inform the imagery and the connections they create.

So here's to my cohort and their work.
Give them each a follow, they are cool af.

P.s. see my work in the last image

Snail Shoal Crescent

At first light on the Li River, 73-year-old fisherman Huang Gaowei moves quietly across Snail Shoal, near Xingping Fishing Village at 5:30 this morning.

Cormorant fishing was once a working tradition along this stretch of river. Today, men like Huang no longer fish primarily for the catch. They return to the water for visitors, photographers and the tourism economy that has grown around the image of the Li River.

The tradition survives, but in altered form: no longer simply a way of life, now also a performance of one.

Week 1 of studying A Masters in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography.

Introductory lectures, discussing the course, meeting fellow students, taking internal headshots and doing inductions for Studio lighting and C41 film processing.

These images show the quiet excitement to further study a powerful form of storytelling we are passionate about. Discovering new environments, new resources, new connections.

- Baba Sandar befriended this little one on the banks of The Ganges, in Varanasi. She had been standing with her dad, watching intently during our photo shoot... a combination of awe, excitement and reverence on her face.

As we were wrapping up he called her over. She hesitated for a moment, but eventually took his hand and they had a moment. She couldn't take her eyes off him. I don't remember any actual words being exchanged - there was no need.

This was a good day at the office.
