A little backbone for your baking. 🦴

@paulrobertwatson made this one-of-a-kind spine measuring cup set, with an iron spine holding together a series of aluminum vertebrae, each one doubling as a functional measuring cup.

Because apparently even your kitchen tools deserve a skeleton.

This set isn’t for sale, but we can make one upon request! Want your own weird little piece of functional anatomy? Send us a message to start a custom commission.

Before Molten Made had a building in the River Arts District, it had a backyard shed and some propane tanks. 🔥

Last year, the couple built a small shed to operate a makeshift foundry powered by propane tanks—the kind used for backyard grills.

They invited sculptor Angela Cunningham to join a metal pour, and she was stoked. "I'm really excited for the opportunity to meet other passionate sculptors, learn more about their methods, and experience the collaborative spirit that a foundry environment can create," she said.

As Julie and Paul searched for a suitable location, they realized that some landlords weren’t keen to host a foundry on their property. That changed when they met Eddie Dewey, who shared their excitement.

Now, they are preparing to open Molten Made within Foundation Studios, a sprawling complex in the RAD known for its graffiti-covered and mural-adorned buildings. Eddie, one of Foundation Studios’ founding partners, embraced the groundbreaking idea of making it home to Asheville’s first fine art foundry.

Molten Made opens this fall. Link in our bio for the full story.

Something wicked this way comes... just in time for spooky season.

ArtsvilleUSA is proud to announce its fall exhibition, "Body of Work," opening Wednesday, September 2 on ArtsvilleUSA.com. Curated by Executive Director Elise Wilson, the exhibition explores the age-old concept of memento mori, a Latin phrase meaning “remember your mortality.”

"Body of Work" bears witness to the joys and burdens of the corporeal body, reflecting on what slips away and exalting what endures. The exhibition is an ode to the exquisite and the macabre, to bodies broken down and reimagined, to the tender play between presence and absence, beauty and dissolution.

Featured artists include Deborah Anderson, Jeffrey Burroughs, Alison Chism, Bridget Fox, Michael Gates, Lisa Gluckin, Sandy Love, Susan McDonough, Melanie Merenda, Katt Naz, Kit Paulson, Alice Scott, Tia Sculpt, Paul Watson, and Emelie Weber Wade. The show features a range of mediums, including jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, metalwork, and assemblage, all crafted by artists working in the WNC region.

Stay tuned for more updates🫀

Featured Art Friday! @paulrobertwatson shares why he creates his life-size skeletal metal and concrete figures:

“‘Reconstruction’ and ‘JR’ were the first life-size pieces I ever made. Each one represented a moment stuck in time that helped me place feelings and work through things I couldn’t quite figure out. I was living in Boston at the time and was inspired by these giant retaining walls that ‘bellied out,’ revealing rebar infrastructure and an impossible weight behind them, shifting slowly through time.

I can’t wait to have a shop space that will allow me to get back to making pieces this size. I have the components for three from over the last few years. As we make progress on our dream of opening a foundry, it feels like a perfect time to bring more of these sculptures to life.”

✨ Featured Art Friday!

This week's featured piece is one of @paulrobertwatson 's incredible hand lamps and this version is cast in iron.

Each lamp begins with a real hand cast with alginate, then is transformed into metal in the foundry. The result is both functional and sculptural, with the light bulb glowing from the center of the open hand.

It's one of those pieces that always gets people talking.

🖐️ The real question is... would you ever cast your own hand and turn it into a lamp? Let us know in the comments! 💡

Featured art Friday! "'Consume' was made during a time when it felt hard to make time for myself. The whole piece was made in a single block of resin sand, using tubing as a means to bind the other iron elements together. It speaks to what I felt, controlled chaos and the need to give my all no matter what it took." -Paul Watson @paulrobertwatson
