How much fun was had at the Sparkle Theatre during NOise VACANCY 2026?!

Sage life advice was imparted from a mysterious magic woman, crap tatts dished out by a couple of equally mysterious and rather exotic fellows wielding felt tip pens.

One could sit in the sun, while away a little time making a daisy chain, which could then be exchanged for a giant mouthful of tiramisu.

Sparkle Theatre experienced a few variations - it was momentarily a Photo Booth where punters could pose for a series of hand drawn Polaroids. And the Midday Matinee saw the theatre transformed again into a jukebox, songs paid for with buttons.

Thank you to all of you who brought this formerly neglected wee phone box alive over the course of NOise VACANCY 2026.

A huge ups to our set designer extraordinaire Katy Wallace for the plush curtain set up, without which this phone box could never have dreamed of rising above its original humble station, and our favourite electric tape typographer Nikki O’Connor xx

Your grandparents need a personalised bookmark! If they don't read books, it doesn't matter, they can hang it on the wall, it's also a name banner!

@katywallace.co.nz commissioned these two bookmarks for the grandiesparents.

Granny's initials are M.S.G; Poppa's initials are D.P.K.

Katy's brief: "Granny likes softer colours like teals and grey blues. Whatever you can mix up."
"Grey's blues mustard, black.....just what you think looks good [for Poppa]"

$7 per letter (minimum spend $35). CAPITALS, Case Sensitive, lower case, or a MIxTuRe all possible.

DM or post below if you want to know more!

Band Soup is back at Gizzy Local for its second round!

Last year our inaugural Band Soup blew us away at what a profound experience it can be to listen *really listen* without the noise and distraction of your average night out.

Band Soup is an evening where the music is front and centre, with some hearty socialising squeezed into the breaks.

We’re very excited to announce three eclectic acts that you may not get to *really listen to* in the same room, again..

Freaked out hippie folk music by Dylan Haley + special guest.

Donnie Flash Heart - Bass and omnichord duo sing in capes

Crumb Factory, who describe their music as alternative sounds that dive deep into the cynicism and humour required to deal with the modern world.

Doors 6:30pm, Music from 7pm.
At Gizzy Local, 64 Lowe St, around the back through the ANZ carpark.

Get your tickets from gizzylocal.com or head to the link in our bio!

Just taking a moment to reflect on the beautiful coming together that was Floodstock at Smash Palace this weekend just gone.

After a really rough few weeks, it felt so special to have community out in force to support local musicians affected by recent flooding events, connecting and soaking up the healing properties of live music.

Thanks so much to the generosity of all those who played for us, and Smash for pulling it all together!

Fabulous captures by John Flatt.

It’s quite likely that the urge is building to have a little shake off and reconvene with friends and community. Tomorrow’s gig at Smash Palace might just provide the perfect setting for such things.

With two DJs, Missing Link and Ghostmoth, and three new local bands; fresh new groupings of some very accomplished performers, it’s set to be ‘one of those nights’ in our local music scene.

Litter is fronted by Charles Barrie who performs guitar-based originals with a somewhat dark groove with Subset BC bandmates Paulus McKinnon and Lincoln Wright.

Darren Byrne (Cellardoor, Killing Floor, Status Anxiety) has pulled together some of the superstars of the local scene for new folk grunge four-piece Model Citizen, for whom this will be their public debut.

And following a long absence from the Gisborne live scene, Joe Alexander returns with Fighting like Stags bandmate Ben Emms, together with AJ Bradley, Albert Gooding and Andrew Cornford as “Spaghetti Grunge” quintet The Voles.…

It’s going to be a banger!
Well done to Smash Palace for working their DIY get it done magic and finding a way to get the venue up and running again under these challenging circumstances! $15 on the door.
