Major life update: the Hambricks are moving!

This time back home to Memphis, TN (Mary Junia’s not quite sure how she feels about it just yet 😂).

I’m super excited to share more about what’s in store for our family in this next season.

But, for now, we are mainly mourning saying goodbye to our people in Denver.

How do you summarize seven years of community into a single post? You can’t…

@pbcdenver @crosspurpose & @denverseminary have quite literally become our spiritual family.

“Deep Roots” is one of our core values at Providence. Which means if you “uproot,” it should hurt. Otherwise, you probably weren’t doing things right. (Shallow Christianity just isn’t an option for the disciple of Jesus.)

Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows I’ve felt called to the city of Memphis most of my life.

So we are incredibly eager to give the next four decades of our life to see the gospel go forth by the power of the Holy Spirit in word, deed, and sign in the city that we love so much.

But we can only really join the redemptive work God is already doing in that great place because we have apprenticed under a ministry which has taught us the transformative power of Jesus-centered relationships.

We will not be the same because of the trajectory shaping influence of our time in Denver.

We’re coming back home with two masters degrees, a baby girl and a PhD on the way. But more importantly than any of that, we are coming home more secure in the abiding love of God than ever before. Because we now know love – not in the abstract – but in the concrete details of God’s covenant people.

May the Lord multiply the talents of the investment we have received in this community of remarkable saints for His glory, our joy, and the world’s good.

WE’RE COMING HOME MEMPHIS!!!

This summer was a blur but here are some highlights.

It’s mainly Mary Junia at this point. But I’m not mad about it. 😍

7️⃣th Anniversary with the love of my life (thanks to babysitting from the world’s best mother-in-law).

Got to worship with @charlottechapel_ in Edinburgh last May. Fantastic church!

Scotland being beautiful. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

New College being nerdy. 🤓

Getting to present a bit of my research @uoedivinity. There was more than one person in this session, I swear. 😂

Frodo Baggins sighting at DIA… 👀

The local church being the hope of the world.

World’s best staff team @pbcdenver!!!

Happy baby. 🙇‍♀️

Again, I ❤️ our church…

Best in-laws ever!

Best parents ever!

Big stretch!!

Good man!

Plz refer to caption #1.

World’s best mother-in-law.

Life is good, y’all.

Nothing better than seeing people use their gifts to bless the Body!

I mean… 👼

Voices from different cultures, different languages, and different stories — all worshipping together as one. 🌍🎶
There’s something powerful about hearing praise rise in multiple languages at Providence. A small glimpse of heaven, right here and right now. ❤️📸

Sometimes it’s loud — singing, shouting, celebration filling the room. Other times it’s quiet — a prayer, a pause, a breath.
Either way, being there to capture those life-giving moments is easily my favorite part of this work. ❤️📸

Easter Sunday with the worship team 🎶🌍
Voices lifted in different languages, different stories, different backgrounds — all together in one place. A glimpse of what’s to come, when every culture worships side by side… and maybe that day starts now. ❤️📸

Easter might’ve been a little while ago… but these moments were worth the wait 🐣🌸 @pbcdenver

So many photos, so much joy, and plenty more still coming. Nothing like a good Easter egg hunt and a day full of laughter. 📸🧡

2024 was a wild ride! Not one I would want again, but God was faithful through it all.

This year was filled with “firsts”! Here are some of the most memorable ones:

1. First (and hopefully last) time seeing my precious mom in a wheelchair; praise God she is walking and dancing today after their car wreck in May!
2. First time in Europe, the UK, or Scotland! @carawhambrick
3. First tattoo(s): one on my left arm; one on my right. It means “the sinful” (Hebrew) “saint” (Greek).
4. First Cambridge Bible (iykyk)
5. First time preaching at my best friend’s church!!! @nicholasagardner @citizensbcs
6. First deacons retreat with Providencia
7. First time at IBR (a real life sighting of the one & only Tim Mackie)
8. First Broncos game @hudjanz
9. First ear surgery (I had a “cholesteatoma”; tldr…)
10. First time seeing the @memgrizz break the franchise record for most 3s in a game while simultaneously holding @stephencurry30 to 0/7 from the field. The irony is intoxicating. Thanks for hanging @kylelmellinger!

I don’t know what 2025 holds. But I know God has more faith, hope & love available to each us in the next year than we experienced in the last.

Let’s trust and thank Him for it in advance!

LIFE UPDATE: This feels surreal to say but exciting to announce – I am now an elder @pbcdenver!

Last month, the congregation voted for me to join the amazing team of elders who are leading our church family. I am incredibly humbled by this opportunity and eager to learn from these godly men!

@carawhambrick & I are beyond expectant for this next step in our marriage and ministry together! And ask your prayers for our church and the work God is doing in Denver, CO.

Praise God for his faithfulness to the Hambricks and to our church family!
