POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We get nervous. But one of the first things we learned from @playworkfoundation back in 2009 is that there are going to be moments that make your stomach turn. To be fair, those moments are all so super relative to age, experience, etc that it is hardly right to talk about them. Take a look at this reel. Mixed age elementary children the lot of them. Thriving in a wild forested area, all taking their own versions of risk. With lots of smiles and joy. A few cuts and scrapes. And every once in a while we might get a little nervous. But their adventures are real and they belong to the kids. So we try to let them have them.

“This is the time to be, exactly who we are.” Well said The Autumn Defense. So during childhood, human beings can act like children. When kids get together with their imaginations, their optimism, and their smarts, they can save a tree. See the reel for their play!

Yes! We had a visit from Christopher Robin today. At least a modern version. We give a nod to CR and give kids the opportunity to chart their own adventures, even if they sometime tumble into a pit of mud. We think we hear Pooh laughing. #onehundredacrewoods #100acrewoods #thewheeandthewhoa

I had a wonderful time in Richmond, Virginia, this weekend connecting with folks, field recording, and celebrating the opening of Back Through The Open Window, a beautifully curated VCUarts photography alumni exhibition. Huge thanks to @will.connally and @rileycgoodman for inviting me to be part of it! Also, thank you, @sarahivinart, for coming through in a mini-crisis, haha! Much love to everyone I got a chance to connect with this weekend.

There’s an arc to our program. The young ones (the Air Walkers or Fiddlesticks) have the tightest boundaries but have freedom to play and take risks within those. The elementary kids (Adventure Walkers) have more room and more opportunity (and they get doughnuts first 😃). And the middle schoolers (jCaTs) have the run of the place and can start taking responsibility with the staff. And during that arc, they are playing together, and that’s where the magic happens.

HollyDaze2024 Day 6 reminds me that opportunity to try, fail, and try again is what Adventure Walkers is about. #playforthewin Happy New Year .
We hope you get to walk outside and have an adventure. They are just a step away.
