On Tuesday, October 6, Kingston-born pianist Monty Alexander marks a double occasion at Paris's New Morning. His new album "A Jamarican in Paris" comes out that same day on the PeeWee! label. The evening, part of the club's 45th-anniversary celebrations, will also see him named Officier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in recognition of his whole career. An early presence at Harlem's Minton's, he became a close associate of Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones and Oscar Peterson. Jamaica's The Gleaner has called him a true pioneer not only of jazz but of ska and reggae. The new record, with tracks such as "Skamento" and "What's Going On," continues that dialogue. He performs in trio with Lorin Cohen on bass and Jason Brown on drums.
