Wordsmiths in the wild

Here is Page Arizona.
Aptly named. A place where two wandering lovers of words can happily get lost. Long trails. Beautiful independent bookstores. Sublime Italian delis.. enough heart to break a dam.
A well yet to be tapped craving new sensation. We are feeling confident.
Ready to take on anything.

That's where magic happens.

Wild Words.

A portrait of anticipation for a night that was just as magical as I had hoped. Poets. The wild horses we are.

More images to come.

Turning the Page feat. Michelle Berry

A little bit of pre-show musings with friend and co-creator @msmarvel070
Forget the camera angles. Excitement and caffeine translate in weird ways.

Marina

A little piece of tonight.
Written for the best kind of artist. The one that breaks ceilings shakes the Earth and offends all the right people.

My hat is off to you Marina

Written on Bastille Day

Another offering. One I'm particularly proud of.

Soul Food

A little fiber to kick start the evening.
A night of words
a night of wordsmiths
Fresh off a rain
Thoroughly exhilarated
We ready ourselves to take to the stage at peak inspiration.

Another fun night of poetry in cottonwood last Thursday for @pendemoniumpoetry at @queenbvinylcafe.
In addition to local favorite Roxy Runyan, hosts Chris and Michelle invited an absolutely dynamite performer from back east and friend from Michelle's old slam days who brought down the house, @mr.mack88 promoting his new book. Go take a look on his page. Definitely one of my favorite poet performances I've seen on that stage so far!
I hope some of my pictures do it justice!

Hope to see you all again for the next Pendemonium on July 23rd!

Loved getting to read some tiny and enormous poems to help celebrate the 1-year Anniversary of the @pendemoniumpoetry reading at @queenbvinylcafe 💥
@im_chriscipollini and @msmarvel070 have built a wonderful and welcoming community up there in Cottonwood and I'm grateful to be able to visit every once in awhile. And it was cool to read with @themightyhumanrace for the first time since our ancient Willow House days! Paradigm from Tucson and Robert Shields from My Life As A Robot also brought the house down.
Got to meet up with a few friends I haven't seen in a long time and a couple who just happened to be visiting all the way from Bristol, England.
Can't wait to see what the next year brings!

Last night at @queenbvinylcafe in Cottonwood was the One Year Anniversary celebration for @pendemoniumpoetry and it was an honor to share the stage again with Shawnte Orion, who I used to read poetry with at the Willow House 19 years ago when I was a homeless stencil artist just beginning to find a community, and @im_chriscipollini @msmarvel070 and @paradigmthejovian who also was there for my first feature. And a surprise guest who left us all feeling starstruck, world-renown Robert Shields, even though he totally performed longer than 5 minutes! LOL. And he actually liked my poetry.
It felt like such a full circle moment on so many levels, reminding me of when I was living on a rooftop and still had a pen and an x-acto knife in my pocket helping me to stay sane and connect with the world, and now, so many lives later, I found my way back to the stage after leaving a 9 year relationship and trying to build a new life again, having no idea where to begin. But about 14 months and a 100 performances ago, I had a feeling that it would be poetry that help me truly find myself again.

Last night was my 5th performance this week after one of my biggest mess ups on Monday, the first time I ever did a whole 15 minute set from memory, and it was without a doubt the best performance that I have ever given, and I couldn't be more proud of myself, and of my new friends, and what we've built together in what....fucking COTTONWOOD??
A full house? For POETRY?
Making strangers cry and yell and laugh and find relief and connection when every day all the screens tell us to be afraid, but we keep saying no.

Poetry is our resistance, our sanity, and sometimes, our very survival.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the support you've given to me this year, and to all the other poets. You are the fuel that fires my cylinders and challenges me to try new things and keep being a better performer. Last night may not have been a slam, but it was the most that I have felt like I have "won" at life in a long time.

Thank you.
