A minute for gratitude this morning:

As I got to take my son into the booth with me today to vote, I felt so much pride in this moment. My volunteers and I have been working since February - knocking doors, calling for support and donations, writing postcards, attending community meetings and events to meet voters where they are, placing signs, and so many other little moments that got us to here.

I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished and while it’s not over, we’re in the home stretch.

Here’s who I am and what I stand for:

Lifelong Lowcountry resident, wife to a lifelong James Island resident, mom to a wild 4 year old and two hound dogs, medical social worker and advocate.

Responsible, smart growth - it’s inevitable, and growth is the sign of a good economy, but that doesn’t mean we need to be reckless with it.

Transparency - you should know who you are voting for and what THEY are voting for. Council actions should be more transparent and I’ll have town halls/office hours to discuss the big issues.

Collaboration - you don’t get the endorsements I’ve received without knowing that I’m willing to work across the aisle and stand up for district 9 snd Charleston County and our small businesses, our vulnerable populations, our workforce (police, teachers, EMTs), our hospitality industry, etc. I’ve worked hard to make these connections and earn their trust. You can disagree on issues without being a disagreeable person and even thought we may not agree, I will always hear you and treat you with respect.

People are ready for a fresh face, new ideas and people willing to listen, advocate and build bridges.

With me you get:
✅ Proactive vs. reactive.
✅ Plans vs. petitions
✅ Building bridges vs. burning them
✅ Fresh eyes vs. the same old leadership
✅ Strong roots for a stronger Charleston 🌴

Today was another busy day before early voting begins tomorrow - Blue Jamboree, Peninsula Dems Phone Banking with comedian Suzanne Lambert and Whit Slagsvol from Southern Charm, and other general election stuff.

However, October 18 is forever one of my favorite days. 13 years ago I married my best friend at our church on James Island 💕 Ryan is often behind the scenes on this campaign - if you’ve seen a sign out, 90% chance it’s because Ryan put it out for me. If I’m out somewhere in the evening, that’s because Ryan is home with our son so I can be there. We were babies when we got married but we’ve been through a whole lot of life together and this campaign is no exception.

Let’s give it up for all the families on the campaign with us. We couldn’t do it without them 💜

Let’s try planning for residents, not for developers profits.

Our county isn’t their investment portfolio.

Katie will bring balanced growth. No strings attached. #charleston #vote

Great spending time with Governor @jbpritzker last weekend right here in District 15!

It’s important to connect national leaders with the people and community. North Charleston and South Carolina have a lot to offer, and our voices will be heard. We will help shape the policies and politics that impact our communities here at home and across the country.

We’ve got work to do, and I’m excited about what’s ahead!

I guess different qualifications apply to the White House press secretary? Interesting.

I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce for Charleston County Council District 9. Thank you to the Chamber and its members for their trust. I’m committed to growing our Lowcountry economy, expanding attainable housing, building walkable communities, and working with everyone at the table to get it done.

Strong roots for a stronger Charleston 🌴
