POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yes, we all like the internet, but have you heard about humans?

Curious, complex, creative humans. In real life, where you can chat, hug, eat cake, and laugh.

Nothing better. And that's what it's all about at @coworkcrew, with added humanity this October in Manchester.

Working (optional) alongside actual, interesting people, chats happening without a Calendly link in sight, plenty of coffee and - obviously - cake.

Plus the marvellous @penthemighty is joining us to talk about why Human Connection Sells: how being more yourself in your marketing builds trust, especially when everyone’s getting increasingly suspicious that they’re actually talking to three algorithms in a trench coat 🕵🏻‍♀️

Come for the coworking. Stay for the humans. And the cake 🍰🍰🍰

Friday 16 October @ Bonded Warehouse, Department

Details at coworkcrew.com/locations/manchester and in the link in bio (our first-ever Manchester gathering in September sold out so don't dilly dally!)

Huge thank you to @penthemighty and @freelancermag for focusing on unpaid caring and the possibilities freelancing can open up. You can read both my and @adrianashton2 thoughts on making it work in the current issue, out this week.

My son fell asleep at 5am this morning guys and I was up at 6am to host co-writing 😂. Insane? Maybe. But they will have to drag my work away from my cold dead hands.

I look forward to this every month 🤩

Today was @Coworkcrew Leeds 3rd get-together.

Working from home like 90% of the time, having this in the calendar is such a pick-me-up.

Thank you to Penny @penthemighty for a fab talk, reminding us freelancers that we have a real advantage when it comes to human-first connection and writing from the heart.

So nice to see everyone again 💜

📌Next Leeds event is on July the 17th before taking a break over August

Thanks again to our fab location @departmentuk_ for hosting us 🤩

I’m a classic over thinker, but in a good way. 😳

I’ve been in rooms where marketing conversations quickly move to funnels, sales, AI, and building empires because social media marketing is “not that deep”.

But what if it is? What if it should be?

After going along to Creator Day last week, the one thing that’s playing on repeat in my very busy brain is this...

How do we move from being spectators & consumers to community & citizenship.

Inspired by the incredible line up of speakers that Mark assembled to unpack the alchemy of community:

⚡️Michelle Goodall asked how we could better serve communities, groups and networks we’re part of
⚡️ @thecitizensguy , powerfully shared that our role as humans has moved to being consumers instead of present, active citizens holding solutions
⚡️ @kku_sounds has gone in search of third spaces with her podcast “Floating Spaces” to rediscover the spaces that bring people together
⚡️ @mguruuk brought the squeeze asserting that seeking connection over approval, works every time
⚡️Lea Turner (and her adorable dog), opened up about what it takes to build a community and stay true to your values while facing off knob heads
⚡️ Phill Agnew, through the magic of song (IYKYK), highlighted that familiarity brings togetherness in the most unexpected ways.

Thank you @markiemasters and @youarethemedia for trusting me to lead an end of day “Working Together Section”, so many chats about exploring writing, researching, testing building communities and feeling the confidence to pivot and try something new.

When I started in marketing almost a decade ago, the rule was that audiences needed to see an ad 7 times before making a purchasing decision. Now consumers are exposed to between 4000 - 10 000 ads a day. A DAY!

This vying for attention is leading to more slop and less and less thinking.

Perhaps it’s time to try something else! My advice as an ethical social media marketer 👇🏾

🏖️ Build communities, create experiences, sing karaoke, swim in the ocean, drink in the sunset with business buddies, lean into the spaces that celebrates the impact you’re making in the world.

Creator Day 2026 had been in my calendar since last May, and yet again, @markiemasters from @youarethemedia put on another blinding conference in Poole last week 🙌

The event included co-working with @coworkcrew on Wednesday and a fab talk from @fullythoughtout

A full day of listening and learning from inspiring peeps on Thursday, with the theme based on the idea of Community. Speakers included @greenwellys @thecitizensguy @kku_sounds @mguruuk @leaturnerholt and Phil Agnew.

And Friday was all about that 7:30am sea dip followed by another brilliant live recording of the @indiebusinessclubpod

I also got to hangout with some of my fave people from the @beingfreelance community, and making new pals with people I’ve only ever seen on screen 😁🧡

May is turning into a properly full on month, but when you’re surrounded by good people who fill your cup rather than drain it…it makes it all worthwhile 🧡

How’s your month going so far?

I can’t believe that came out my mouth!!

Yes another Creator day is complete. 6 hours to get there 7 hours to get back, but worth it and going to it has given me many things.

1. Confidence to drive long distances
2. A break to the seaside to fill up my cup
3. Fish & chips!!!
4. Time with people who have become friends 🥰
5. Creative ideas, chats about making my business better.
6. Lots of company
7. A full nights sleep, the first time in months
8. Lots of laughing
9. A drunk story to cringe about for months
10. Lots of hugs
11. And lots of thought provoking talks from brilliant speakers

I probably will write about it more later in the week but for now life returns to normal but life returns to normal except I feel a little more confidence, more creative, more informed, a little taller AND a little more Joy 😍

Special shout to @by_anjap and @themindfulgingernut for some of the photos in this reel go check them out!

Today I have attended a couple of sessions as part of @freelancermag Freelance Masterclass Live and I've taken so much good stuff away - even though with @supersecondsfestival coming up this weekend I've only been able to attend two of the sessions actually live!

First up I attended a session with @heather_aifnt on using AI - it was SUCH a practical session, which I loved, and I'm going to spend some time setting up Claude ASAP!

Next I attended 'Write like yourself (everyone else is taken)' with @penthemighty and came up with a lot of content ideas from a simple, repeatable process that Penny introduced us to.

Swipe to see some more key takeaways 👀

I can't wait to dive into the recordings of the other sessions!

Have you been to any of the sessions today? Let me know as I'd love to find out which your favourite parts were.

A year ago Nerys from @stocked.horsforth and I sat down for an Incubate Session in the middle of a partly dismantled shop - and a year later I want to say just how amazingly proud of this woman I am!

I love helping people plan out the future of their business - and there's nothing quite like seeing those ideas and plans on post it notes come to life 😍

From running 1:1 strategy sessions in @stocked.horsforth and organising co-working get togethers, to running the 10th @supersecondsfestival from the space and bringing my boys in for visits, it's become such an important part of my community.

Thank you Nerys for setting up this incredible shop and co-working space - it's an amazing achievement and I hope you know how amazing it (and you!) are.

@tigerislandband are a five-piece garage-punk band from Leeds/Bradford. Their sound fuses the rock ‘n roll spirit of bands like Hot Snakes and the Murder City Devils with the fuzzy synthed-up power-pop of the B-52s and the Cars.

Live they are fast, loud and full of fun - expect big vocals, clap-along breakdowns and tunes that will make you want to get up and dance.

Check out their two EPs - 2024's 'Looka Looka Looka' and 2022's 'What Have We Done' - and get ready for their debut album, due out spring/summer 2026.

They'll be with us on Saturday for an all-dayer of epic proportions at @kcc_shipley as we welcome @pulled_apart_by_horses and a wild bill that they've curated just for the occasion.

Want to be in the building? You know what to do... 🎫⏰

We'll also have sets from @mikartistiksegotrip @loosearticles @hang_linton @whoaregoo and @cellarmessiahband

@miskimex and @eden.pie bring the food, @shipleytriangle bring the bar 🌮🧁🍻
