💖 Meet the Artists of FORTRESS 💖

@kate.csillagi, Kate Csillagi, is an interdisciplinary Austin artist whose practice grew out of zines, punk flyers, and album art and now spans murals and immersive installations. Her work summons guardian figures and personal mythologies, creating spaces where the surreal and the sacred coexist.

@hope_hummingbird, Hope Hummingbird, is a ceramic artist and educator based in Austin, Texas. Her fine art practice centers on porcelain portraiture, often depicting fellow local artists and feminist icons throughout history.

@peptalks, Lauren Napolitano, is a self-taught contemporary folk artist based in Austin who works in ceramics, painting, murals, and tattooing, drawing inspiration from her Mexican ancestry and travels.

Happy birthday to my beautiful wife, Lauren.

One of the things I admire most about you is the way you move through life. You’re incredibly driven and hardworking, but you’ve never sacrificed your heart in the process. You’re a gifted artist, a loyal friend, an incredible mother, and someone who genuinely shows up for the people you love.

You’re creative, independent, passionate, funny, strong, and ridiculously beautiful. When you believe in something, you go after it. When someone you love needs you, you’re there. And when life gets hard, you keep moving forward.

I’ve watched you grow as an artist, a mother, a wife, and a woman, and I’m endlessly proud of you.

I’m grateful I get to share this life with you, raise our daughter beside you, watch you chase your dreams, and continue growing together through all of it.

Happy birthday, beloved. I love you more than I could ever fit into an Instagram post. ❤️

SAVE THE DATE! We’re so excited to host Hope Hummingbird, Kate and Lauren for their group exhibition FORTRESS!

FORTRESS brings together three women artists considering a fundamental question: What might we create if we quit inheriting the old world and began imagining the next one?

Join us at our gallery at Canopy on October 2nd to view all new artwork spanning the mediums of ceramics, paintings, sculpture and found objects. Together in FORTRESS, these artists charge the space with an intimate look beyond the veil, inviting us into an unruly place of becoming.

We are unable to find words for what has been happening in the last days in Nepal, and how to express the amount of pain and grief. Some people we know personally have been affected by the recent floods in Nepal, and we know many of us feel the same helplessness, devastation and sorrow. While immediate relief is coordinated by people and entities equipped for this work, we’ve been thinking about what support from our side might look like in the weeks and months ahead, when the attention and resources begin to shift elsewhere.

Together with friends, collectives and organisations, we’re hoping to allocate and support families with some of the longer-term needs that come with rebuilding their lives.

As a platform for artists and creatives, we want to raise funds through prints & artworks, projects, gatherings and initiatives, contributed by people in our network, with the proceeds going directly towards supporting these families.

This is the beginning of an idea that needs to take a definite shape yet, as the situation keeps changing and we move as required. Nothing can be set at this point and needs to be discussed collectively with everyone involved, closely following the situation and involving affected communities. For now, we’re reaching out to artists and organisers who might like to be part of this and to start organising. After building a group, we will discuss how the prints & artworks are collected, produced and sold, how events & projects can be coordinated and who the beneficiaries & partners are.

At this very moment, we know that we want to contribute however possible and with whatever lies within our capacity to support in the long term. If you’re interested in contributing a print, artwork or edition, and/or are ready to plan and initiate, please send us a private message. We’ll share more information and updates as the initiative takes shape. Preparation is key, and we want to be ready.

We know that individually we may not be able to do much, but together, we can provide meaningful and sustained support for families affected by the floods.

Please continue to support the people of Nepal in this time!
