Thank you boy, for helping me love the game again šŸ

always grateful. always proud.

this weekend I start my first competitive cricket season in over 12 years.

I found my love again after watching my son pick up a bat for the first time and smile.

I left the game in a way where i thought id never get that feeling again. Burned out, resentful and unsure of my own worth- but children have a way of making you rethink things.

This season will be a blessing and a privilege. And i hope in some way it honours my son and what he what he was able to give back to me.

Thank you Son 🧸 :)

love always
Dad

And here’s the kicker is not as hard as you think… sort of.

If you managed to get this far, i’m sure your expecting to see an essay on the wonders of modern rehab or some silver bullet that is destined to eradicate all lower back pain for good…. I wish!

The answer is simple in theory but hard in application.

It is simply progressive Load management.

WOW ! SHOCK ! AMAZE ! haha

I’ve learned as physio over the past decade that 8/10 injuries i attend to are because people rush their loads and their volumes too quickly - not allowing enough time for the body to adapt and it simply yields because it doesn’t have the gumption.

This video of me taking a full run up in spikes bowling at near maximal intent took me 6 MONTHS TO DO ! IG makes it look like everyone has wolverine like healing and are doing things at crazy rates. TRUST ME IT ISN’t TRUE.

Your body must pay the cost of the demands put on it and that requires time.

That’s all.

A good rule of thumb is the 10% rule. Where all you do is well to well bowl 10% more that the previous week.

for me at one stage that was only 4 extra balls a sessions. not alot. but nickles and dimes add up.

Brisket mentality fam :)
