It’s strange how an idea unfolds. The first iterations of this collection began as a loose sketch in 2024. I worked on a few concepts, and then I abandoned them. Added to that, this work was rejected twice. So I moved on. But through different life experiences over the last two years, the idea kept finding its way back. Two years later, I get to share it with you. The vulnerability it takes to make work and then put it out there into the world is not easy. But we do it anyway. For me, painting is a way of showing up for myself and showing up for others. I knew before even starting the sketches that this message was bigger than me. With everything going on in the world, I am so grateful we have spaces for art, music, and collaboration. Making art has always been my first love. But just as much, I love the part where the art brings us together, allowing me to talk with others and hear your different perspectives. This collection belongs to those who carry deep sensitivity. I’m glad to be one of them. I don't know if I’d be able to channel that into painting without it. We can’t predict how things will unfold, but I guess that’s the magic of it. I was so close to scrapping this entire idea, but to water down our truths and play a safe role doesn't serve anyone. The constant push and pull between the performance of survival and the courage to remain unmasked is the exact point of this collection. Thank you so much to everyone who has visited the gallery so far. And whatever you are working on, please don't abandon it. Overwhelmed with gratitude 🖤 Thank you to everyone who came by the opening for The Grand Performance this past weekend! This was my first solo show and a brand new direction for my work, so yes it was scary, but each of you made it special. Hearing people open up through the theme and conversations was especially inspiring to witness.
