April at Space.

After the Easter weekend, we’re back with a new schedule. Talks, DJ sets, pop ups, exhibitions and everything in between, from specialty coffee to evening drinks.

This month also brings a few special moments, including a guest exhibition and a fashion pop up by regional artists, along with ongoing fashion and design sales in the Space throughout April.

Take a look at what’s coming up and drop by.

Holographik Space is a place in Zagreb where design, culture and community come together through talks, exhibitions, music and everyday moments around the bar.

See you at Ul. Franje Petračića 3, Zagreb.

MUSIC MONDAYS VOL 35

This one’s for my brother, my oldest friend, my confidant, my role model in many things, my light when things get too dark.

“…al ti i ja, buraz, sjajimo u mraku.”

Happy Birthday, I love you.

Big thanks to Marko and Luka. ❤️

“Pips, Chips & Videoclips” is a Croatian rock band from Zagreb. They were formed in the early 90s and are still active, releasing some of the best Croatian music to this day, alongside the frontman’s wife Yaya and her band “Jinx”. It was our dad who first introduced us to both of these bands.

“Bog” (“God”) is the final track of their fourth studio album under the same name released in 1999. In one of his interviews, frontman, Dubravko Ivaniš said: “Right before this album, we forever stopped being boys. We grew up overnight, and against our will. Becoming a grownup is tough, especially for a rock’n’roll band. (…) It may be hard to admit but these songs, like invisible threads, bound us for life. Maybe that’s God, who knows.”

MUSIC MONDAYS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Music Mondays, same as my guitar journey, started almost as a joke, after I promised Mark I was gonna post one video each week.
With a little help from my friends who kept cheering me on, this is week #29.

As my friend Andy likes to point out, there’s something special hidden in consistency, showing up week after week, regardless of location, holidays, or life circumstances.
Like a continuation of your daily yoga practice; it’s something you just do, without putting too much thought and effort into it.

Santa Baby, bring me more of that in 2024.

Big shoutout to my Little Helpers on this song. ❤️

——-
Original version of “Santa Baby” was released in 1953 and performed by Eartha Kitt. Music critics gave mixed reviews to the single, some calling it too suggestive for a holiday-themed song. Upon completing the lyrical component of “Santa Baby”, Philip Springer expressed his dissatisfaction with its content. During a meeting with a group of music publishers in 1953, Springer warned them: “Gentlemen, this is not really the kind of music that I like to write. I hope it’s OK. It’s the best I could do.”

DJ-ing or recording sets is like telling a story through music. You’re not gonna play a track by Nirvana followed by a track by Norah Jones; or bossanova followed by progressive techno. You could, but you’d either have to be a very skilled storyteller DJ or be ok with perhaps confusing your listeners.

When I used to go to parties, storytelling through music was always the most important part for me. Does it have a beginning, a middle and an end? Or is it just a flat line of similar tracks being lined up one after another? Does it evoke something in me? How does it make me feel?
And I was able to quickly tell whether it was gonna be something that I’ll like, or something unexciting, monotone, and plain boring.
The worse the music would be, the more high I would get, trying to use drugs to induce ANY kind of feeling (and stay awake).

The best sets were always the brave ones, the ones where the DJs used music to take the listeners on a journey, the ones that had a soul, regardless of the genre, the ones that were soft and melodic, even when they simultaneously had a hard, greasy bass. The ones that made you smile and feel happy.

Me and my brother tried to do that with this set we played at THE party of the year. @partykosulja
We put together something that, primarily, we would want to listen to. And now we’re sharing it with all of you who like music, in hope you’ll hear a track you like, one you’ve never heard before, and maybe hear the story we wanted to tell.

Humans are relational beings.
Whether we want it or not, we exist in relation to everyOne and everyThing that surrounds us.
Our bodies are made to receive - love, tenderness, smiles, hugs, comfort, forgiveness, loss, compassion.
This receptivity allows us to relax into intimacy.
Intimacy with ourselves and other living beings with whom we share our moments.
“Moments that will once be lost in time like tears in the rain.”
I wish we had done these photos sooner.

Hvala @artina_mm ❤️
