🧵 GLUMPERT – Sustainable fashion as safe space 🐌

In the new exhibition GLUMPERT at OK Linz, Austrian designer @peterfellner links reused everyday objects with queer symbolism and sustainable strategies. Curated by @sandrakratochwill, Fellner questions mainstream fashion norms and opens space for new forms of identity.

Whether it’s embroidered pictures, crocheted doily, scarves or umbrellas - they retain visible traces of the past and transform the ordinary into something valuable. The snail becomes a symbol of fluidity, slowness, and a safe space. Through a specifically developed zero-waste-draping-system and the sustainability strategy repurpose, fashion becomes visible, political, and poetic.

💥 Now open: @peterfellner – GLUMPERT
What an opening night. The exhibition launch drew an overwhelming crowd, with an exceptional number of visitors, friends, colleagues, and family members of the artist filling the spaces of @ok_linz. From the opening speeches to the first walk through the installation, the atmosphere was energetic and intense, with a constant flow of people eager to experience the exhibition and engage with the artists work.

In his exhibition GLUMPERT, Austrian designer Peter Fellner approaches fashion not as a product but as a practiced attitude. The project explores how clothing can become a safe space for bodies, identities, and materials that are often excluded or overlooked within normative systems. Fashion here becomes a structure of protection in which difference, ambivalence, and transformation can exist without explanation. 🧵

Working with used everyday textiles such as embroidered Gobelin tapestry pictures, crocheted doilies, silk scarves, and umbrellas, Fellner transforms existing materials into garments that carry visible traces of their past. Through sustainable repurposing and a zero-waste draping technique, these objects gain new meaning while challenging heteronormative dress codes and the speed of the fashion system. 🪡

🐌 The symbol of the snail runs throughout the exhibition as an emblem of fluidity and a queer role model from nature. It represents protection, slowness, and cyclical growth while shaping the design logic of the collection. Between installation, fashion, film, and sculpture, GLUMPERT unfolds as a spatial experience in which clothing becomes performative and identity emerges through movement and interaction.

Let the spiral begin... @peterfellner 🐌

The collection „GLUMPERT“ describes the austrian slang word for unwanted things or an unloved group of people.

Outcast materials or so called „trinkets“, queer people and snails are given back their deserved social appreciation through empathetic approach and mindful care.

References such as non conforming fluid identities, relevance to various ecosystems, symbol of slow-pace and safe space are important to the project. These references are offered by the snail as a queer role model.
By applying the sustainability strategy „repurpose“, neglected textile household- and fashion goods are given new value.

Hand-embroidered Gobelin tapestry pictures, colorful and cheerful silk scarves, or plain colored crocheted doilies are used. Additionally, shimmering velvet curtains find their place. Found at local flea markets, as NGOs often burn these textiles because they fall outside their sorting systems. Reintroducing them brings them
back into the economic loop.

Inspired by the snails’ spiral, the golden ratio is translated into a zero-waste draping system. This allows for recursive pattern expansion into various sizes. Soft corners, wrinkled volumes, and self-stretching lengths emerge. All outfits together range within the color spectrum of the rainbow. They stand together in unity and community.

Heteronormative dress codes are appropriated through the rebellious use of atypical materials. In this way, outdated stereotypes are ironically recontextualized.
