Eight days under the desk not necessarily in this order; there is no celebrity hype or manufactured history here. I’m into mostly runners from 1972–1980 —some ‘80s designs can also find themselves laced under my desk— with lotsa love for the Herzogenaurach (HERZO) brands. Clarks and Saucony are in the mix this rotation.

No One Wants to Settle for an L…

👟- Made in 1991 Puma Milage.

Yes, I spelled that right, Milage, with an L. If this was a Puma Mirage - with an R - I could give you one of my usual History Dissertation. I could tell you how the model was originally released exactly 50 years ago in 1976. I could discussed how it was engineered strictly for speed and athletic performance in track and field. About how the originally 70s model was a spike with a nylon upper reinforced with Premium Suede. We could fast forward to the running boom of the early ‘90s when Puma released the model as the staple to its new jogging and leisure line. Unfortunately, this is a Puma Milage - With an L. Also released in the early ‘90s. A sleeker, faster companion shoe to the Mirage line. If it does has a similar origin story dating back 50 years to the ‘70 I havn’t heard it 🤷‍♂️. What I do know is that the running boom of the early ‘90s is back. I do know that everytime the Mirage has been retro’d that it’s been a success. Let’s give some other similar models a chance…

1982, Made in Italy, Puma Blue Bird

Originally released by Puma in 1982 - that’s the year I was born - as a lightweight indoor training and running shoe, the Blue Bird featured a distinct royal blue suede upper with a bright yellow Puma formstrip and a gum sole.

Because the trainer’s striking colorway matched the exact colors of Wale National Football Club Cardiff City and its official name was the “Bluebird”— the club’s historic nickname-the shoe was quickly adopted as a badge of honor by Cardiff City Fans.

Now these gems sit as one of the most recognizable & sought after relics of the ‘80s Terrace craze.
