This decision has weighed on me since we started our sailing adventure over two years ago.

An ocean crossing feels like a rite of passage in this lifestyle, and with so many of our friends doing it as families, I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out.

But the truth is, we’ve tried everything to see if my body can handle the sea… and nothing has worked. It breaks my heart, but not all bodies are made for all things.

When I really sat with this decision, I had to face the reality, I could be sick the entire crossing. Sure, maybe I’d adjust eventually, but who knows how long that would take?

The thought of being flat on my back, grumpy and groggy for 17 or 18 days, while Peter and the kids (and any crew) pick up the slack didn’t sit well with me. If I can’t help or participate, why am I doing it? At some point, I’d become a liability.

When I’m out of commission, Peter takes on everything, and I can see how quickly exhaustion sets in. After more than four days I am afraid things will start to unravel. The safety of our family has to come first. 💛

Until our younger ones are stronger crew, I need sit these longer passages out.

The silver lining? Is there more to mention than what I said above? Haha. The apple pie and hugs are getting me on that plane!

We are excited for a break from the boat and wee will meet Peter in Barbados rested, recharged, and ready to take on the Caribbean.

The next stop on our full-time family sailing adventure is the island of Stromboli! This is one of seven islands north of Sicily and it’s stunning. I think this is my favorite place we have visited in 2025 and one that is particularly ideal from a sailboat. ⛵️❤️

Living the dream, one nervous breakdown at a time. Full-time family travel via our sailboat means some days I’m 2 knots away from abandoning ship. Thankfully I’ve got this crew of calm to keep me in check. French toast anyone?

Some the best, longest waves I've surfed anywhere here in Ecuador the past few days. We measured one wave at 720 yards... Stoked and grateful to have an amazing gal and some old buddies to share it all with.
