📚✨ Looking back at a book lunch at Huis van het Boek

Last week, we had the pleasure of presenting Moon Bound at Huis van het Boek, the oldest book museum in the world.

Thanks to everyone who joined the conversation and to a warm welcome by Huis van Het Boek team. We loved visiting the beautifully curated miniature book section, which we highly recommend!
💫 For more upcoming events keep an eye on our website.

What a pleasure it was to attend a special presentation in Den Haag (NL) at The House of the Book museum yesterday for the Moon Bound project. Moon Gallery founder Anna Sitnikova introduced the event and 4 contributors (inc me) spoke about their artwork or text page in the 1cm square book launching to the Moon this year. Got to handle a mockup too, adorable. So fun to meet everyone involved and the museum was fascinating - they have an even smaller book than ours…7mm with a gold metal cover!

👩🏻‍💻🌙 Moon Bound blog post #12, the Artist Statement by Peter van der Putten & Jeroen van der Most 🔗link in bio

«Are we destroying our planet? Or are we really on a path to destroy ourselves? And if Nature could talk, what would it tell us? Would it ask for help? Or would it have something else to say?»

📌 Each Wednesday, a new entry will join this unfolding conversation: artist statements, behind-the-scenes stories of sending a book to the Moon, contextualising essays about the project, and explorations of why art belongs on the Moon at all. You’ll also find personal, cultural, and spiritual reflections on humanity’s evolving relationship with our celestial companion.
The Moon Bound blog is initiated and curated by Dr. Barbara Brownie and Christopher Cokinos.

This little book will go to the moon with one of our poems in it. So cool to see it @dutchdesignweek - @bioart_laboratories

Together with @petervanderputten I created a poem as part of our Letters from Nature project, with a text written from a Moon mountain to Mount Everest reflecting on humanity.

The poem will be added to the Moon Bound book, an initiative by the @moongalleryfoundation who created this exhibit setup with @figure__10

Here’s a bit more about the book:

“We travel to the Moon in order to better understand it, but we should also ask… How does the Moon see the Earth? Moon Bound project has gathered responses to this question and put these together in an artists’ book, which will land on the Moon’s south pole. Moon Bound is a 1 cm³ volume, which collects text and image submissions from 48 contributors, along with statements and manifestos that locate this project in the context of the ambitions for better representation of the arts in space.”

Tree Neographies: suspended sculpture with constructed tree script, part of “AI Ecologies” @artphywessinghuizen until September 14th.

How do languages act as interfaces through which we exchange specific worldviews and perceptions of reality? And how might language function as a means of uniting perspectives and cultivating empathy between humans and the natural world?

An example I love from Olelo Hawai’i is the word “waiwai” - or wealth - which is a doubling of the word “wai” - meaning fresh water. This encoded perspective recognizes water as the source for all life and true abundance.

Using AI style-transfer models, I experimented with the merging of the human and non-human through neography: blending the bark fragments ("characters") from a Cyprus pine tree with elements from Chinese seal script. The work offers no direct translation - only a poetic reading that invites the possibility of listening across worlds.

Many thanks to @cyens.thinkermakerspace for helping me bring the sculpture to life for the exhibition.

“Tree Neographies” in conversation with nature at Kunsthal Artphy @artphywessinghuizen

Among the trees, shifting with filtered light from dawn to dusk, and moved by the gentle stirring of air currents.

The installation draws on the quiet gestures of the natural world, echoing a time when humanity was more closely attuned to the sentience of other life forms. As our separation from nature deepened, our ability to receive and interpret their subtle communications gradually receded from the collective awareness.

Through neography, a new channel of reconnection is explored.

By reimagining and transforming found bark fragments from a mature Cyprus pine tree, a visual lexicon begins to emerge — an alphabet, a logography — extending an invitation from the trees: to re-perceive, to re-attune, and to re-listen, calling for a restored relationship with the living systems that have coexisted with human life from time immemorial.

We are going to the moon. Yes really:

One of our letters that is. From our art project Letters from Nature, a coop with @petervanderputten The letter will be part of Moon Bound, an artists’ book created by the @moongalleryfoundation

The book is scheduled to launch to the Moon toward the end of 2025. To eventually end up on the Moon surface as a small size physical print.

We’re of course over the moon with this news 🌝🌜🌙🌘🌛

The letter that will be sent to the Moon is one from the Moon’s tallest named mountain, Mons Mouton, to its Earth-based counterpart, Mount Everest. Reflecting on human existence.

More about the Moon mission in a later stage.

The Moon Gallery Foundation aims to inspire the public to think, dream, and act in relation to space. Not as a distant frontier but as a shared public space for dialogue, co-creation and engagement. The book brings together 49 voices from around the world, each offering a response to the question: “How does the Moon see the Earth?”

Last week i had a great experience at Artphy doing a flash residency on AI Ecologies.

During the residency I developed a project that uses AI as an "observer", detecting when a visitor is watching the installation and altering the visual output in response. Part of an AI-driven visual exploration of Young’s double-slit experiment, the plan is to expand this concept into a large-scale immersive installation that not only visualizes but also physically enacts the experiment's fundamental ideas.
The projection itself would consist of dynamically generated video content that responds to the presence or absence of an observer. This interplay between observation and visualization would highlight the central question of quantum physics: how the act of observing shapes reality.

I loved working with other artists in this beautiful place, reconnecting and bonding with nature whilst in a creative environment.

Super thankful to @artphywessinghuizen @petervanderputten @rolandvandierendonck
