🎃 It's officially October! 🎃
I had the pressure of picking this month's book and chose House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland 🏚

And we're back to our usual Sunday! (Thank god, I think the Tuesday meeting almost killed me and Peter)

☕ Meeting Info
📅 October 25
⌛ 3:00 p.m. est

📜 About the Book
Iris Hollow and her two older sisters are unquestionably strange. As children, they disappeared on a Scottish city street only to return a month later with no memory of what had happened to them or where they’d been. More troubling, their appearance began to change: their blue eyes now black, their dark hair now white. And as they grew older, odd, eerie occurrences seemed to follow in their wake. People find them disturbingly intoxicating, unbearably beautiful, and inexplicably dangerous.

Now seventeen-year-old Iris is doing all she can to fit in and graduate high school on time—something her two famous, glamorous, globe-trotting older sisters, Grey and Vivi, never managed to do. But when Grey goes missing, leaving behind bizarre clues as to her whereabouts, Iris and Vivi are left to find her—but they aren’t the only ones looking. As they brush against the supernatural, Iris quickly realizes that the story she’s been told about their past is unraveling and the world that returned them seemingly unharmed ten years ago might just be calling them back again.

*About the Book*
Beverley, Elsie, and Margot are not your average housewives. They are all wives of convicted killers. During the sun-drenched summer of 1966, the three women form an unlikely friendship after the discoveries of their husbands’ brutal crimes. With their exes dead or behind bars, the women attempt to forge new futures for themselves.

Headstrong Beverley compulsively tries to maintain control of everything around her, all while raising two children. Bookish Elsie fights day in and day out for the chance to make a name for herself in the newsroom, working among men who sneer at her career goals. Glamorous Margot refuses to take anything seriously and devotes all her energy to upholding the appearance that everything is fine—anything to quell the shame from her husband’s deceit.

☕ Tea and Tales Tavern Announcement ☕

Hello chat! It's time for another book club announcement! This time Peter chose Y2K: How the 2000s Became Everything (Essays on the Future That Never Was) by Colette Shade. Schedules are a little crazy this month so we're having book club on a Friday! This will be after work for at least half of our hosts and way too late for another. I'm going to assume there will be some very silly, over-tired shenanigans
happening! You won't want to miss it :)

Date April 24
Time 7:00 est

"THE EARLY 2000s conjures images of inflatable furniture, flip phones, and low-rise jeans. It was a new millennium and the future looked bright, promising prosperity for all thanks to the dot-com bubble. The internet had arrived, and technology was shiny and fun. For many, it felt like the end of history: no more wars, racism, or sexism. But then history kept happening. Twenty-five years after the ball dropped on December 31st, 1999, we are still living in the shadows of the Y2K Era.."

☕ Tea and Tales Tavern Announcement ☕

We're back for another Tea and Tales Tavern meeting!

This time we're reading Breakaway by @kdonkn. If you know us you know how much we love the PWHL so I'm very excited to be reading and discussing this book.

Date: March 29
Time: 3:00 est
Place: www.twitch.tv/vctoriaa

"When the first puck dropped in the Professional Women’s Hockey League in January 2024, it had been a long time coming. Women have been playing hockey since at least 1890 and playing professionally for decades. But until 2024, even the highest-level female players had never been compensated as professionals: some paid for their own gear and worked second jobs, earning a pittance, if anything, from their chosen profession.

In Breakaway, Karissa Donkin tells the story of the players’ efforts to create the PWHL, long before the first full season in 2024. Following the unnamed 2024 Montreal PWHL team, with some of the best players in the sport, like Marie-Philip Poulin and Erin Ambrose, Donkin takes readers through the League’s founding, the draft process, the practices, and the dramatic arc of the first season. Defying all expectations, with larger crowds and higher revenues than anticipated, this first season was a gamechanger for professional women’s sports leagues."

Our August read was The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware

Here are some of our thoughts:
⭐ Story: The least Scottish book to ever take place in Scotland
⭐ Characters: Are we really sure that's who did it?
⭐ Vibes: 3Spooky5Me at times
⭐ Overall: Warning - this book contains plot holes big enough to fit the Cairngorm Mountain

🔑 Do you agree with our rating? Let us know in the comments below!

🦇 This is what we rated The Southern Book club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hedrix

Here are some of our thoughts:
⭐ Story: Not enough vampires and not campy at all.
⭐ Characters: Mrs. Greene was too good for all of you
⭐ Vibes: Horrible and awful
⭐ Overall: Probably one of our most hated books to date. Do not let TikTok lie to you, this is not a fun, silly book. Look up the trigger warnings before reading. Also, the title is too long

Have you read this book? Did you hate it as much as we did or are we missing something?

There were too many good choices for this one so I guess you'll just have to scroll through all the images to see our full casting 🤷‍♀️

Every month we do a fancasting for the book we read! We also talk about kind of production it would be (movie, show, limited series, etc.) Watch the full episode for the full details on why we chose who we did and the production type.

Some of our picks include:
🎬 Patricia: Hayden Panetierre
🎬 James: Bradley Cooper
🎬 Kitty: Anna Camp
🎬 Mrs Greene: Sheryl Lee Ralph
🎬 Slick: Angela Kinsey
🎬 Grace: Soiree Ronan

Who would you have cast and how would you produce it?

We're back for another Tea and Tales Tavern meeting!

Join us on February 28 where we will be discussing The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould as chosen by Addie

☕ Tea and Tales Tavern Announcement ☕

This month is our one year anniversary! Can you believe it's already been a year?? Or that we haven't missed a single month?? I can't - holy shit what a year it's been!

If you remember - we started off Book Club by reading Dreamers Do Lie by the amazingly talented Megan Cutler. AND you might remember she joined us on stream so we could ask her all our questions about the book and writing in general.

Well, what better way to celebrate our one year anniversary than to read the second part of the duology "Life is But A Dream". AND as if that isn't fun enough, Megan will be joining us once again! So come prepared with warm cups of tea and plenty of questions because this will be an evening to remember :)
