🌈Join us for the Mid-Pacific Regional Summit on Oct 10th, “Love out Loud”!
Register at - https://midpacific.pflag.org
Tickets are $15/- for in-person and $5/- for virtual registration

We are delighted to present at the summit on, “How to Grow a Diverse Chapter: Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs” - we are thrilled that Anu Gupta, our Chapter Leader and Amaya Wooding, President and Lucy Shen, Secretary, PFLAG Fremont/Tri-Cities @pflagfremont will present this session jointly.

🪷About the session - Building a diverse and intersectional community is always easier said than done. If your chapter or board lacks diversity, this is the talk for you! We’ll share experiences from the Asian-American ethnoburbs of San Ramon, Danville, and the Tri-Cities, covering common pitfalls, ways to reach people outside our bubbles, and real-life scenarios.

🪷About the Summit: 16 PFLAG chapters across Northern California and Nevada will be in one room on October 10th. The Mid-Pacific Regional Summit brings chapter leaders and partner organizations to Skyline College in San Bruno for one day, under the theme “Love Out Loud”. The agenda is practical, delivered by our amazing colleagues and partners: chapter safety planning, working with local school districts, growing chapters that reflect our communities, state legislative advocacy, a session on LGBTQ+ mental health with the Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative, Yale School of Public Health. And our dear friend Kenan Arun, ED, LGBT Asylum Project @lgbtasylumproject will talk about standing up for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers...

Chapters across the region (and nation) face many of the same questions.
How do we keep members safe?
How are we useful to a school board?
How do we grow past the same twenty people?
A day together is how those answers travel. Join us in person! Or join us virtually from anywhere!

“Over a million people participate in San Francisco’s Pride Festival celebrating the city’s past and present queer community,” the letter reads. “The actions of four San Francisco Giants pitchers, who registered opposition to LGBTQ+ people’s very existence on Pride Night — and the laissez-faire response by team leadership — are deeply hurtful to our families and a rejection of the city and fans they should be uplifting.”

“We ask that the organization do more than issue a bland statement about ‘anger and pain,’” the letter from LGBTQ+ groups reads. “This harm is bigger than that. You brought gay couples on the field on Friday to renew their vows, sharing their most intimate and meaningful moments with the Giants community. And then you allowed messages on official Giants uniform from a group that believes those very marriages are sinful. Does the hypocrisy not register?”

The group goes on to ask the Giants to reach out to families in the LGBTQ+ community and offer a meeting to listen to why what happened Friday matters.

“Only then can we consider the process of repair and healing, which will require substantive efforts to change the culture in the clubhouse and on the field in a way that reflects and respects the community that invests the Giants with cultural relevance, as well as pays their salaries,” the letter continued. “Short of that, as painful as it is for kids who were raised on baseball, we will have no choice but to change our relationship to the team and encourage others to do the same.” Thank you @pflag_trivalley @pflagsjp @pflagfremont @pflagsanjose @pflaglamorinda @ebstonewalldems @calnurses

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️Good news! SB 934 (Expand Justice for Conversion Therapy Survivors) by Senator Scott Wiener @scott_wiener has passed out of committee.

We were glad to be in the Capitol in support of Senator Scott Wiener’s Bill SB 934 co-sponsored by Equality California @eqca, which extends the statute of limitations survivors of so-called “conversion therapy” have to seek justice from those who harmed them. This gives them the time they actually need to process what happened, find support, and seek accountability.

We were joined by PFLAG Sacramento’s Advocacy Chair, Mary. Our chapter was represented by our advocate member and mental health professional, Lisa and President, Anu. Together, we were thrilled to represent these chapters in strong support of the bill,

- PFLAG Danville-San Ramon Valley
- PFLAG Sacramento @sacramento.pflag
- PFLAG San Jose/Peninsula @pflagsjp
- PFLAG San Francisco @pflagsf
- PFLAG Tri-Valley @pflag_trivalley
- PFLAG Oakland/East Bay
- PFLAG Fremont/Tri-cities @pflagfremont
- PFLAG LaMorinda @pflaglamorinda
- PFLAG Clayton-Concord @pflagclaytonconcord
- PFLAG Los Angeles @pflaglosangeles

We are very grateful to the Senator, to the committee and to Equality California! At a moment when LGBTQ+ protections are under attack at the federal level, what California does matters. LGBTQ+ young people in our state are watching to see whether their leaders will stand with them. Passing this bill sends a clear message: what happened to survivors mattered, and California will not let those who caused harm walk away. We will watch the passage of these bills supporting our community as we keep #fightingforourpride #LGBTQ+ #Advocacy #PFLAG #California

We showed up for LGBTQ+ youth.
We showed up for trans rights.
We showed up for health equity and many bills championing LGBTQ+ rights.

Over 300 advocates met with 90 of our elected representatives and we are so grateful for their support. Advocacy truly empowers us to drive systemic change and PFLAG Chapters were glad to show up for our LGBTQ+ loved ones and community with so many amazing advocates and organizations.

Our PFLAG Chapter was at the Capitol for Equality California @eqca’s LGBTQ+ Advocacy Day along with many PFLAG Chapters and amazing nonprofits like @lalgbtcenter @calgbtqhealth and @translatinacoalition. We were represented by Lisa, our long-term member advocate, Jamie, our treasurer and Anu, our President.

Thanks Equality California for putting together such a tremendous event with over 300 advocates. Thank you for your continued leadership, sponsoring bills, training us and for the meetings organized with many of our elected representatives. This was the largest Advocacy Day in California with the theme “Rise Up” and in these unprecedented, dangerous times for our LGBTQ+ community, our collective strength and advocacy truly are a force. We are grateful to our State LGBTQ+ caucus @calgbt, representatives and Governor and hopeful for their support.

We met with our representatives to advocate for critical protections for LGBTQ+ communities, in groups with other advocates. The protections we seek are,

A $26M Budget Ask — Protect access to transgender health care by creating a state‑only Medi‑Cal pathway and stabilizing provider networks.
AB 908 — Enforce LGBTQ+‑inclusive curriculum under the FAIR Education Act.
AB 1540 — Restore the “Press 3” LGBTQ+ option on the 988 Crisis Lifeline.
AB 1775 — Support transgender veterans with housing, employment, and record corrections.
AB 1836 — Expand nonprofit security grants for Pride and LGBTQ+ community events.
AB 1876 — Ban discrimination by insurers against LGBTQ+, TGI patients.
AB 1930 — Protect patient privacy from out‑of‑state abortion & trans care investigations.
AB 2014 — Prevent harmful gender bias in criminal trials.
SB 934 — Extend justice for survivors of conversion therapy.
SB 1023 — Improve access to long‑acting injectable PrEP.
SB 1114 — Strengthen LGBTQ+ data privacy protections.
SB 1149 — Expand bereavement leave to include chosen family.
SB 1328 — Increase confidential LGBTQ+ support in higher education.

To our LGBTQ+ loved ones and communities, we want you to know - you’re not alone. We are fighting for our Pride. We are fighting for you. ♥️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

On Monday night, the Supreme Court blocked California from enforcing its 2024 state rules protecting transgender students from being forcibly outed at school. The Court did not strike down the rules entirely, and the case will now continue in the lower courts.

PFLAG families and chapters across California, including ours, fought for these protections, advocating through the passage of the #SAFETYAct, working with our wonderful partners, meeting with lawmakers and speaking out in support. We will continue advocating to ensure that every young person can feel safe, supported, and respected at school. 🫶🏽🏳️‍⚧️

(Throwback from when the SafetyAct AB155 cleared the Assembly Education Committee in 2024 and was eventually signed into law by the Governor; featured here are our Chapter President, Anu Gupta, Chapter President of PFLAG Sacramento, Sabrina Brian Naves; former Board Member of PFLAG Placer County, Daniella Zimmerman (who heads @placercenter), Board Member, PFLAG Clayton/Concord, Denison and many amazing partners (while many more chapters were involved))

We are proud to stand united in solidarity among the PFLAG chapters speaking out in support of those impacted by injustice.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Minnesota and communities across the country in opposing ICE raids that are cruel,
unlawful, and carried out without due process. We stand with the brave protesters and neighbors who have put themselves at
risk to protect one another. We condemn the killings in detention centers and the executions carried out in public view,
including those of Renée Nicole Good, Alex Pretti, Keith Porter, Josué Castro Rivera, and Silverio Villegas González. Even as
these killings unfold before our eyes, the Administration continues to deny and distort the truth.
We mourn the lives lost to ICE violence and hold their families in our hearts.
We stand firmly against racial profiling, the targeting of immigrant families, and unlawful deportations that
disproportionately harm undocumented people, including undocumented LGBTQIA+ people, BIPOC LGBTQIA+ people, and trans
people of color, many of whom fled persecution in their home countries. As LGBTQIA+ people, families, and allies, we know
what it means to be targeted, criminalized, and dehumanized.
Here in California, we have witnessed ICE raids at homes, workplaces, schools, and court hearings. The increasing
militarization of ICE has not made communities safer, it has terrorized families, threatened health and livelihoods, and put
lives at risk.
Our diversity is our strength. Even as we grieve, we recognize this as a defining moment that calls us to lead with love and to
stand for justice, liberation, dignity, and inclusion.
We are guided by the resilience of our elders and ancestors, by those who taught us to protest, to resist oppression, and to
refuse silence in the face of injustice.
Because of that legacy, we call on elected officials to oppose ICE agents terrorizing our communities. We commit to keeping
our communities safe in California and beyond, extend our solidarity to the people of Minnesota and elsewhere, and demand
that ICE leave our neighborhoods and communities.

#PFLAG chapters across California issued a joint statement condemning violent and inhumane ICE raids that harm families and communities.

In recent days, lives have been lost during immigration enforcement actions. We grieve those losses and stand with the families and communities impacted.

Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and due process — not fear in their homes, schools, or workplaces.
