Today is the first day of fall, but Autumn arrived months ago.

She opened her eyes for the first time on a Tuesday, and life was instantly and irrevocably different. For all that’s been said about welcoming a child into the world, there really are no words to describe the feeling. All I knew was that I’d love her forever.

I haven’t been shy to confess that I was always a little resistant to becoming a parent. Some part of me still fears I’d fall short of whatever makes someone a good father. Other times, I worry about all that she will one day confront in this uncertain world.

But then I remember that I get to raise her with Thu, who has a way of making ordinary days feel so special you never want them to end. Our daughter gets to see the world through her kind and gentle eyes first, and suddenly my worries begin to fade.

In these first precious months, Autumn has been surrounded by so much unmistakable love. There are people rooting for her before she’s had a single thing to offer in return, people who cared for her before she could understand the shape and depth of that love. So when life inevitably feels a little off-kilter, I know there will be so many beside her to help her find her footing again. Not by choosing her path, but by reminding her she never has to walk it alone.

There are moments with Autumn when I’m overwhelmed with joy I almost find it hard to breathe. I love the way she wraps her little hand around my finger as I feed her, as if she’s correcting me (which feels like foreshadowing). The way she stares into Thu’s eyes as she sings to her during her evening bath. How she watches, slightly bemused, when our dog does something dumb. Her tiny dimples when she smiles. The gentle coos as she drifts off to sleep.

Right now, she is perfect to us. But I never want her to grow up believing she has to be some version of perfect to feel like she belongs. I hope she knows she can stumble, change her mind, disappoint, surprise, grow into someone entirely different from the person we once imagined. There will never be anything she has to do, or anyone she has to become, to earn our love.

She’s had that from the moment she first opened her eyes.

Those who know me on a personal level know me as a bit of a foodie and know I like to dine out as a hobby when I’m not busy working. I wanted to make a shout out post to all of the amazing chefs and restaurants in Philly that are really putting this city on the map as of late for the whole world to come visit.

Growing up as a kid I would always watch the food network or travel channel with my grandpa watching icons like Emeril Lagasse or Anthony Bourdain. In college I would use my part time income to dine out at restaurants by myself because I just really enjoyed the restaurant dining experience. It was to the point where my friends would always tell me to become an elite Yelper and get paid to eat at restaurants and review them. 😂🍽️

Now fast forward a decade later and with a combination of 1) running our humble family business as a fresh seafood market / takeout restaurant and 2) enjoying dining out with my family and friends on my limited time off, I have grown to form connections and relationships with a lot of the restaurant scene here in Philly.

Philadelphia may be most well known for the iconic and delicious cheesesteak, but Philly is really becoming a hub for incredible and diverse food on all levels at a world scale. Undoubtably a top food destination within the US.

We are extremely proud of fellow restaurants in the city that are raising the bar with James Beard Award nominated and winning chefs and restaurants. And excited with the controversial but recognition drawing news of Philadelphia’s recent addition to the Michelin Guide.

Food is what brings everyone together and brings joy and nourishment to our bodies. It doesn’t matter if it’s a $10 meal from your favorite mom and pop shop or a $100 meal from a fancy restaurant, what matters is the quality of ingredients, value in cost, great taste, and above all, your personal experiences, preferences, and memories associated with that meal.

To everyone working in the food service industry, kudos to you all for working hard to feed the communities you serve.

Let’s keep raising the bar in Philly - proud to be from this city! 🙇🏻‍♂️🦀🦅💚
