#MillianGiangPham #AuburnUniversity "Cats, Kitsch, and Cartoons: Transforming Cliches in Art and Design" The murky notion of cliché and trite art still elude many students as they try to grasp the semiotics of visual art while juggling craft and composition in art and design classrooms. With ubiquitous cuteness in current visual culture and notions of ‘cool’ art in pop culture, it is in students’ and an art program’s best interest to examine and investigate these ideas. Instead of avoiding this domain altogether, this panel brings together strategies from art and design educators that allow students to face this problem head on and find workable solutions as they develop their voice, practice, and general art interest. The goal is to aid students in defining, digesting, and determining the appropriate pathways as they navigate kitsch, cliché, sentimentality, and triteness in their individual creative investigation, and the possibilities of these lessons in their future conceptual exploration. #visualnotetaking #pedagogy #art #design #macaa2026

Some more recent exhibition photos from Across Shared Skies Memory. Form. Place @dalai_la_art_space Bidhata K C @bidhatakc Curatorial Note         Across Shared Skies brings together five artists from the United States and four from Nepal to explore how memory, place, and form are shaped and transformed across different contexts. Though geographically distant, the work by these artists meets in a shared, fluid space where memory shifts and form is always changing. The works in this exhibition move through quiet tension; through presence and absence, visibility, concealment, holding and letting go. The objects, images, and bodies act as carriers of memory and lived experience, often holding fragments rather than conveying fixed meanings. Some of the works in the exhibition explore how knowledge and representation are shaped today, where digital images, AI, myth, and science overlap. While others focus on the body as a site of identity, shaped by movement, migration, and adaptation, where meaning is often felt rather than spoken. Nature and landscape also play an active role, not as background but as living systems that connect human and non-human worlds, cycles, and time. Inherently, the exhibition sees memory as layered and evolving presence in objects, gestures, and spaces. In Across Shared Skies, these different experiences come together, offering the audience a space where differences meet, resonate, and remain open.   Thank you for including my video work along with these other talented artists. Happy more or less start of summer yall. To the shock of no one is getting hot and humid here in AL but the people are all warm so that offsets it a lot. Having a great time hanging out with @patleeo tooling around Tuskegee and going to @rjfinkel ‘s talk on the amazing work of Buddy Snipes. Had a very wonderful starwars/godzilla themed course redesign workshop with @phammilliangiang and all my untagged group mates. Getting some solid garden and cat time in too. ✌️
