I didn't really take any pictures at Pride this year because crowds, small child to watch, and rain, but here's a couple of selfies and a pic with wonderful writer friends. 💜

It’s still the beginning of August so let’s set some writing and reading goals! What are yours for this month? I’m going to try for at least 500 words a day, writing in 5 different places, and to support my writer friends @alethearlyons @pscwillis and @phdancersteapot - I think the gift giving thing is so cool and I’m going to have fun finding some wee mindings for them ☺️📚 I’m also going to try to connect with more people in the fantasy community who reject AI slop and want to read human-authored and diverse fantasy books. And yes they might be shiny 🤩 #amwritingfantasy #fantasybooklover #fantasyauthor #antiai writingcommunity

Who thinks I can finish this book in August? QotD: What's your August writing goal? I'm estimating 30k to finish the plot (I'm fairly near the end) and write in the Problems for Future Thea scenes, plus editing a good chunk of the existing chapters. Stay tuned to see if I succeed. To add some community and rewards to our August goals, some friends and I are sending each other since little mystery treats as well as being a cheer squad in our chat. (Also follow my friends and check out their books and other creative works.) Everyone has a goal that suits their needs and current life commitments. All goals are valid. As well as word count, I've given myself the goal of writing in a library, a garden/field, a cafe, the bath, and under the stars. 🗝Writing community, word count, am editing, am writing, indie author, fantasy, SFF

QotD: What's an amazing handmade present you've received? AND/OR Drop a character art you love and tell us about your OC. Artists and writers encouraged to share. This art was made by the incredibly talented @phdancersteapot. I was astounded to get not one but THREE hand painted postcard-sized arts for my birthday. When he's cat-shaped, Fionn is a white Turkish Angora fluffball. When he's human(ish), he's a shy soul who's been told this form is grotesque. In any shape, he's ridiculously magical, excellent at maths and science, enjoys stories, likes stargazing, and is afraid of the dark and water, and makes dreams for a living. In cat shape, he sneaks into museums to look at art but he wishes he could go in human shape so he could read the little cards. From book 1.5 onwards, Fionn is a main character in my dark supernatural Seer of York indie fantasy series. There's a slight spoiler in this art. Can you spot it? You can find the books via my profile, or anywhere they sell books. 🩵🩷💛 Sarah Fletcher (she/they, also now working under the pen name Fletchins) is a writer-illustrator and general creative human working with watercolour, coloured pencil, photography, words, and assorted dabblings in other mediums. She grew up in South Australia but is now an expat based in Sheffield, UK, which has inspired a love of connecting creatives across the world. Check out their profile if you’re curious about virtual exhibitions, Storytime for Grown-Ups, or her general art and creative work. Their Instagram includes many pretty pictures and 2yo insights.

Mums, Moms & Dads who write (and work) are teetering on the edge of the summer school holidays and who’s ready?! If you’re in the US or Ireland, you might have already tipped into the void! I can’t promise I have any answers, because my life it total and utter chaos, but I’m an optimist and so here’s my Summer Survival Guide for writing parents. I just want to give a shoutout to my accountability group @alethearlyons @pscwillis and @phdancersteapot without whom I would not thus far have achieved 56k on my current WIP. 100 words or bust! 🥳 #writingcommunityofinstagram #fantasyauthorsofinstagram #momswhowrite #writerlife #amwritingfantasy

I don’t usually post the full extent of the research I do when we select a theme. But, on this occasion we were so inspired by the discovery of a new colour, and I learnt so much about Lichen, that I thought you might find a little bit of this interesting too. Thanks @paintingthepast for being such a huge inspiration this week 🫶🏻 And to our fab photographers… the curious nature of your Lichen images has had me out in the garden, taking oodles of pictures of my own 🫶🏻 🪾💚 @youluckygirl 🪾💚 @phdancersteapot 🪾💚 mamma_raz 🪾💚 @presently.here 🪾💚 @foundandframed_ct We hope you have a lovely weekend, Love Rebecca & Lewis xx #lichen #natureinspired #paintingfurniture #furniturepainting #theoneforwood

Introducing... Sarah Fletchins Title: The Gates Pronouns: She/They Bio: Sarah Fletchins is a demi-pansexual genderfluid British-Australian human (who may or may not be a dragon on the inside) living in the UK, where she is constantly in awe of proper changes of season, squirrels and 'part time trees.' She lives in Sheffield with her husband and two adopted rabbit fur children. There she can usually be found drinking too much tea, making artwork, reading stories aloud to grown-ups, singing rock songs or lost in a forest. Her work includes writing of short fiction for her 'Storytime for Grown-Ups' project, poetry, YA queer supernatural romance, and various illustration, photography and general creativity. She is passionate about nature, tea, the queer community, creativity, and love. We are thrilled to be working with her! Multi coloured background with black text overlaid. Text reads Sarah Fletchins @phdancersteapot Pronouns: She/They Title: The Gates Not/Coming Out A Charity Anthology

On Easter Saturday I had the privilege of being part of an online exhibition curated by Sarah Fletcher of @phdancersteapot titled 'Spaces and Places That Changed Me'. The way the exhibition worked is that photographers began the exhibition by submitting images of a space or place that changed them. These were then passed onto poets who created poems inspired by our images. Their poems were then passed onto visual artists who created artworks purely based on the poem (they did not see the photograph that inspired the poem until the exhibition). Bernice Baker @agirlpoet was the first poet who created a poem inspired from my images titled 'The Visitor'. @rowland.ellen was the second poet who created a poem from my images titled 'The Faraway Nearby'. The artists who then responded were Margaret Fletcher, Ksenia Tomasheva and Shaghayegh Sayadi. I chose 3 images from my time at Uluru in the Northern Territory in April last year. Going to Uluru has always been something I had wanted to do. As an Australian, I felt that it was a right of passage in a sense; to go to this sacred place, feel the earth beneath my toes and listen and learn from the First Peoples of this land. I chose my 30th birthday to take this trip. In 2020, I had 2 miscarriages. This trip to Uluru was not only a bucket list trip, it was a time to reset, to stop, listen and learn. Walking around Uluru was breathtaking. I could feel the connection to country and I was awestruck to stand at the base of something so beautiful and important to the Anangu people. This was a place that truly changed me. Before the exhibition I had not seen what the poets and artists created. I teared up hearing Ellen and Bernice's poems; inspired by my images. Even though neither of them had been to Uluru, they too felt the way that this space truly can change you. It was incredible to see how the artists reflections on the poems links back beautifully to my original photographs. What a wonderful exhibition to be part of. Thank you Sarah for curating a moving exhibition. #uluru #astrophotography #kingscanyon #yulara #northernterritory #melbournephotographer #adelaidephotographer #miscarriage
