Snippet day is another Reece snippet because the 10th was his birthday and I forgot to post anything — what a mean character mum! Reece has an unusual ability that gets him into quite a bit of trouble. I promise he does eventually get a happy ending, though I'm yet to write it 😅

Today wasn't writing day after all because at the last minute Lloyd realised today was a good one to take off due to moving meetings so we did our date day instead. We made Lego sunflowers, ate a picnic lunch and watched Heartstopper Forever 🧡

I did get my daily words done on Storytime, however, and added structure to the plan for the ending, so that's in sight!

And it was also @pscwillis ' birthday, so you should all send them birthday love, tea, and friendly trees.

The last few days have become something of a blur as I put all my late night time into Secret Project to get it finished on time. Also, Little Bird caught chickenpox, so there hasn't been much sleep, and in-between all that we had family hang out time, and all my Main Writing People were at fantasy con in Glasgow over the weekend so time had that weird stretchy feeling it can get when other people aren't around at the usual times and/or you're the one not involved in a big thing. Settling in to recommence work on Storytime and novel tonight, but not planning to go too late. Tomorrow is hopefully a bit of a writing day so I'm hoping to catch the missed words up then.

I haven't come across an awful lot of tiny outdoor observation candidates recently but I did find these cute fungi near our den spot. Writing goals are kind of on track this week? I'm doing a secret thing that involves a lot of extra writing so lots of words are happening but not necessarily on the planned goal things.

Today's tiny outdoor observation is a pollinator visiting the basil flowers. In writing updates, last night words were done, but tonight I did some art first and then ran out of time because Little Bird decided to wake up and need help settling just as I was finishing the little art I was working on. So extra words tomorrow it is.

Today's tiny outdoor observation is the fantastic skeleton leaf that Little Bird found near the den on the weekend. I explained what it was, but he kept asking where the green bit was, so I'm not sure he quite took in what I was saying 😂

Writing update: Managed some catch up words to make up for the last couple of days, though I still need extras tomorrow too to make up for previous nights where I didn't quite make 200 overall. We have family arriving tomorrow to visit for a while, so hopefully with some extra hands around word count will be up a bit in the coming weeks.

You know you whinge too much about feeling old when the toddler declares your words back to you 🤣

In writing updates, not much to report. I hoped I'd have got a big catch up chunk done last night while Lloyd was at his fencing class but I ended up being a human hot water bottle for a small human who was in the process of becoming snotty and very sad about it. Luckily I got to document my tiny bit of progress with beautiful stickers from @handmadeyoyo 🧡

I've been getting a bit bored of my mostly food-ish rewards for reaching writing and art goals, and I have a beautiful notebook which got slightly waterlogged at the front in the River Occurrence but mostly just washed away ink from my notes for a writing group I decided wasn't for me. Hence, I have decided to make it into a sticker book for specific goal categories. Pictured here with a ShiBui decaf Darjeeling infused with the rosehips Little Bird collected on Thursday's Rivelin wander. Also in this post: cool sunflower seed head.

A bit of a collection of tiny outdoor observations, followed by 1) Den progress — starting to look like a bowerbird's bower 2) Writing progress and 3) A poem on the last two slides, after I realised my September goals say 3 poems to post and 1 to submit somewhere and I had only done 1 so far with one week left of the month 😅😂 The poem uses prompts from a series of lovely prompt creators who I will list in a moment. But before I do, given the goal to submit a poem somewhere, I wanted to ask prompt writers in general, and fellow poets, what your feelings are about poems that use prompts being sent anywhere besides social media posts? Does the use of someone's prompts make it not entirely my own work and therefore not suitable for submission anywhere? Obviously the poem in this post uses a lot of prompts and is an extreme example, but what about a whole poem sparked by a single prompt? Let me know what you think and help guide where I get my inspiration for what I write for submission.
