FLIGHT FRIDAY 🪽

... where we highlight the abundance of birds you can find around the state of South Dakota!

Today we're highlighting our state bird, the Ring-necked Pheasant! ☀️ The ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) is a large upland bird with a long, pointed tail. Male ring-necked pheasants are named for the white ring around their neck. They sport colorful body plumage and their head's reveal plumage of iridescent blue, green and purple, with a distinctive red wattle around the eyes and on the cheeks. Females are designed for hiding, nesting and raising young. Their feathers are brown, tan, cream and gray.

Pheasant hunting in South Dakota is renowned, attracting thousands of hunters and bringing millions of dollars of revenue into the state. It is an introduced species, native to Asia. It was first introduced into the United States in 1857, and has become well established throughout much of the Midwest, the Plains states, and parts of the West!

We just wrapped up hanging out with our new friend Randy after he won our donated hunt through collaboration with @pheasants_forever and @quail_forever .

We shared lots of laughs , missed shots together , and more importantly watched great dog work.

This is what it is all about…
